@KathleenAldrid9 @Bold_Sue @ctvottawa I agree. Tap water is free if sent from home, with the initial cost of a few reusable bottles. If parents want safe drinking water for their kids, and safe schools in general, they will need to get out and vote in the next provincial election.

@JBJonesey Exactly! Online should always be an option, but never a requirement. It should be opt-in not opt-out.

Sometimes I think about how during the height of the pandemic we all agreed, including the government, how important and irreplaceable in-person learning is… But they never removed the mandatory online credits for graduation, just kinda stopped talking about it… 🤔 #OntEd

@JBradshaw01 Yep. It’s the real reason mandatory online credits were brought in. Saves a lot of money at the expense of student learning and development. There’s a place and time for online for some students, but not the masses.

@JBJonesey Yup. People don’t realize: 1. How inauthentic the marks awarded in these classes are. 2. They come at the expense of in-person course offerings.

@JBradshaw01 I don’t think exams are done in most online courses these days. It’s been assignments that are easily made with AI. About half our grade 10-12 students are doing English online, resulting in huge section cuts to our school.

@JBJonesey Without a doubt, online marks are almost always inflated. Even without AI, authentic assessment is extremely difficult. I know a student who admits with much amusement that his best friend sat beside him and helped him complete his “exam” for his online chemistry course.

“More resources in classrooms” sounds great in a slogan. What resources exactly? Smaller class sizes?
More teachers?
More educational assistants?
More support staff for kids with special needs?
More mental health supports? Because student outcomes have declined under Doug Ford while classrooms have become more overcrowded and under-supported. If you’re not talking about actual investment in students and staff, then stop using the word “resources” as a PR line.

@Bold_Sue @ctvottawa Cost. Schools are starved of funding. The only affordable answer is to remove the water fountains and tell parents they have to send their kids with water. Not a good solution, but this government won’t pay for repairs.

@GunnerFreeman33 They did. I was at a football game in Toronto last year and they were boing the American anthem. I was tempted to leave, it was appalling.

Canadians don’t get this. The average American is a fundamentally decent person.
