@Dcheeth2 @jimthegiant If these reforms wnt through, as I have a Dutch partner, it would be practically impossible to return home with her. Certainly prohibitively and unfairly expensive for her, and psychologically, I wouldnt want to put her through these Reform government policies.

Marrying a Brit isn’t a golden ticket to settlement, and it never has been. Spouse visas already require: Proof of genuine relationship Minimum income threshold English language ability 5 years before ILR Reform’s proposal scraps ILR, but the citizenship route still exists. Foreign partners won’t be “kicked out”, they’ll just have the same choice as everywhere else: naturalise or stay on a visa. The drama about “Brits forced abroad” is pure bollocks.

Effectively any brit, myself included, who has a foreign partner will likely have to move out of the UK. That’ll be a lot of talented young mobile individuals lost. The irony that a foreign born person marrying a brit isn’t enough to ‘assimilate’ by reforms standards.

The most hilarious thing in the whole tax the rich debate is… Everyone agrees the billionaires are greedy. Just the anti-tax people are saying we are too powerless to do anything, so we must be good serfs. Just remember who operates their businesses and buys their products.

@robprogressive You know full well that’s not what Gary is saying. He’s clearly stated many times he is not in favour of raising taxes on salaries and incomes of people who work for money. He’s always argued on taxes on the asset owning class. Not those working for their income.

And it takes 21 £25k earners to generate the same tax revenue as ONE £150k earner Stop hating & jumping on the bandwagon of ‘Tax the Rich’ & start holding the govt. to account on how they spend (waste) taxpayer money

This is the correct course of action and the current government position is wrong. I don’t know exactly whose fault it is that they persist with their so-called ‘red lines’, but it’s nonsense given the geopolitics and economics of 2025.
