May the 20th anniversary of #HurricaneKatrina remind us of the need to transform or discard inhumane systems and the need to transform inhumane hearts that disregard and discriminate against people. So many people should be alive. So many Black human beings were dehumanized. #NeverForget #RacismIsReal

The people who threw rocks at Ruby Bridges for trying to go to school are now upset their grandchildren might learn about them throwing rocks at Ruby Bridges. Some of those people who threw rocks are still alive.

They *say* it’s for “health reasons”, but you kinda know in the deep parts of your soul that banning soda for people on SNAP is some weird, puritanical judgment on the poor, right? The world is hard; I feel like everyone should be allowed to have a Mr. Pibb from time to time.

The Strickland
The Strickland@TheStrickland·
Tomorrow is Primary Day in New York City and we at The Strickland are actively endorsing Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York City. As a site that was conceived from the notion that hard working people shouldn’t be held down under the thumb of greedy corporations, we’d be remiss if we didn’t endorse Zohran. Zohran’s goals as Mayor are plain and simple — to make things more affordable for the average New Yorker, to provide a higher minimum wage so that everyone can live comfortably, and to fight for the most basic human rights for all New Yorkers, no matter their skin color, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. That’s a New York that we’d like to see, and we hope that you would too. For those with a short term memory, Andrew Cuomo, as New York Governor a mere four years ago: - Was found by the US Dept. of Justice in 2024 to have sexually harassed no fewer than 13 women who worked for the NY State Department during his time in office from 2011-2021. - Shirked COVID protocols and forced nursing homes to accept COVID-positive elderly people, resulting in numerous deaths, and openly lied about it. At present, he’s accepted millions of dollars in funding from super PACs that feature more than a few common denominators from those that fueled the reelection of Donald Trump to the White House. For all the above reasons, for whatever it’s worth, The Strickland would like to voice our support for Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York City. However, the great thing about ranked choice voting is that even if you prefer other candidates to Zohran, you can still rank him as one of the candidates on your ballot and help ensure that Cuomo stays out of our great city by not ranking him at all. To that end, we’d recommend ranking – in addition to Mamdani – Brad Lander, Michael Blake, Adrienne Adams, and Zellnor Myrie on your ballot. Every one of our preferred candidates is as committed as we are to stopping Andrew Cuomo from assuming the mayorship, and that’s the goal as much as electing Zohran Mamdani. Overall, we can't stress enough that you should exercise your right to vote for whoever you feel could best lead New York City in these uncertain times. It's just our opinion that no matter who you put at the top of your ballot, it definitely shouldn't be Andrew Cuomo, and should probably be Zohran Mamdani.

Please never ask “why do they hate us” again, you know why. The US is a global tyrant, Democrat or Republican, the policy is always imperialism. The rest of the world exists to be exploited and when they fight back—in any way—they’re vilified as savages. Wouldn’t you hate us?

Genuinely do not understand how anyone could regard the state of permanent semi-war the US has declared against every state that defies its wishes as anything but profoundly evil

Conservative politicians and talking heads coming on here clamoring for the release of Tory Lanez is their latest attempt to pander to the Black male demographic and I think that is really sad for a number of reasons
