I'm trying to be better about self-promoting my work, so here it is. Benregesh is a high-flying action fantasy. Think a light novel on steroids. Over 700 pages, with 30 pages of manga art included as extras. If you're looking for bombastic action, heart-warming romance, and terrifying monsters, then look no further. Seriously, there are some action scenes in this book that will make your jaw drop. Part of how I facilitate that action is through my setting. Benregesh takes place in a distinct, unique world with original races, fantastic locales, and a mind-bending sense of scale. Seriously, you've never read anything like this. At it's core, though, the characters were my favorite part of writing Benregesh. Whether it's Kaleb's scrappy wit, Rael's search for redemption, or Avia's absolute badassery, each character was a joy to flesh out and explore. While talking with Americans, I learned another mysterious phrase: “fuck around and find out.” At first, I thought it was some kind of research method. Apparently, it means: “Keep doing stupid things and reality will personally explain the consequences.” English is educational.

Cool. So we'll be getting Fallout 5 in 2040. In all seriousness, it sounds like Microsoft finally told Bethesda to get off their asses and release something. Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online do not count.

Bethesda Game Studios says Fallout 5 is currently in pre production and will come out after The Elder Scrolls VI. Remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are also in the works. Obsidian is also set to develop a new Fallout project.

Don't even get me started on Across the Spider-Verse, turning Peter into an army of yes-men for an evil bastard. It pissed me off so much.

Admittedly, while I do occasionally experiment with AI generation, one story that you will never ever see me touch with AI art is Benregesh. Why? Because doing so would be a disservice to the incredible art that's already been produced for the story. Look at this! AI could never.

Lean into the predatory nature. It's not just a hook: it's a lure. It's free candy from a white van. It's cheese on the mouse trap. It's whatever you can do to trick people into reading your story long enough to fall in love with it.

Writer friends, I've never liked the term "hook" for making an audience care about your story. It's predatory. I'm not trying to manipulate people, I'm trying to give them a gift of new friends and exciting circumstances. Any suggestions for a better phrase? 🤔
