There was a fantastic discussion yesterday on Alexander’s Friday Space about a hypothetical Tesla-SpaceX merger. Retail investors for both companies discussed it in a very cordial way, and everyone learned a lot. Near-universal support for the idea, with the main sticking point being the exchange ratio (primarily from certain Tesla shareholders' perspective). The one thing almost nobody wanted to touch? The regulatory gauntlet. Maybe it’s too early, too nebulous across dozens of jurisdictions, or just plain boring. I don’t find it boring. Having worked on one of the biggest and highest-profile merger blowups in history (Halliburton-Baker Hughes), I’m going to spend the next few weeks putting my thoughts and experiences down on paper — and talking them through with Grok. The hypothetical merger is exciting. But you’ll never get to delete the word “hypothetical” if you can’t make the boring stuff work.
