On #WomensDay2026, we must remember the women imprisoned for freedom in Belarus. According to @viasna96, 164 women remain political prisoners in Belarus today. Women like brave journalist Katsiaryna Bakhvalava, sentenced to 8 years in prison after a live broadcast from the place of the violent police crackdown on a peaceful protest in Minsk. Since 2020, at least 1,917 women have been convicted in politically motivated criminal cases, while more than 9,400 women have faced arrests, fines, and other forms of administrative persecution. Many were punished simply for peaceful protest, expressing their views, or showing solidarity. At least 15 imprisoned women are suffering from serious health problems. Belarusian women have been at the heart of our fight for freedom, and they must all be free. #IWD26

The first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize, the first individual to be awarded two Nobel Prizes and still today the only individual with two Nobel Prizes in two different scientific categories: Marie Skłodowska Curie. Skłodowska Curie developed the term radioactivity, discovered the chemical elements polonium and radium and contributed to develop new cancer treatments. For her scientific dedication and remarkable breakthroughs, she was awarded the 1903 physics prize and the 1911 chemistry prize. Learn more: bit.ly/4qGyRS1 #InternationalWomensDay

2018 peace laureate Nadia Murad grew up in the village of Kojo in northern Iraq as a member of the Yazīdī minority. In 2014, militants from the Islamic State (IS) invaded and conquered her village. They massacred several hundred men and older women, including Murad's mother and six of her brothers. IS kidnapped Murad and other women to sell them as sex slaves. She was held as a sex slave for three months, where she was raped and threatened with execution. She tried to escape several times before succeeding. She fled to Germany as part of a refugee program for survivors of the IS. After her escape, Murad began to speak out about the atrocities committed by IS, especially against women and girls. In December 2015, she spoke before the UN Security Council and told her story. Murad's story and advocacy drew international attention to the suffering of the Yazīdī community, but also to the use of sexual violence in war and armed conflict. In 2016, she was appointed the United Nations’ first Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking. By recounting the atrocities perpetrated against her, she seeks to help ensure that future generations of girls and young women do not become victims of sexual violence in war. Murad tirelessly works to end the practice, but to get victims of sexual violence justice and resources to heal upon arriving to safety. Read more: bit.ly/2xlk9uH #InternationalWomensDay

Important issue? All is well here in Greenland. There was one submarine crew member who required hospitalization in Nuuk. He was evacuated by the Royal Danish Navy and is receiving proper care. He is in safe hands with skilled doctors from Greenland and Denmark. There is no need for a hospital ship. Perhaps it would be better to focus on the needs of your own state.

The world looked away — and it still does. This image is not from a distant warzone in history. It is from Sinjar, and it tells the story of the Ezidi genocide committed by 1S1S in August 2014 — a crime that the international community and many global organizations continue to neglect. Thousands of Ezidis were brutally executed, buried in mass graves, or left to die simply because of their faith. Families were erased. Villages were destroyed. A community was targeted for annihilation. Yet more than 11 years later, the consequences of this genocide are still painfully present: •More than 2,500 Ezidi women and children remain missing, fate unknown. •Dozens of mass graves have still not been exhumed. •Hundreds of recovered remains have not been identified or returned to their families. •Victims’ families have not received fair compensation or reparations. •Sinjar still lacks a stable and effective local administration. •Over 250,000 Ezidis continue to live in IDP camps, deprived of safety, dignity, and a future. •Perpetrators of genocide, sexual slavery, and crimes against humanity have largely escaped accountability. The Ezidi genocide is not a closed chapter. It is an ongoing injustice. Recognition without justice is empty. Sympathy without action is hypocrisy. The silence and inaction of the international community deepen the wounds of survivors every day. Justice delayed is justice denied. The Ezidis are still waiting. #ezidi #yazidi #YazidiGenocide #advocacy #HumanRights #sinjar #Survivors #YSL

The people of Iran have been under the boot of a forceful theocracy for as long as I have been alive - living under a regime that refuses to tolerate dissent, pluralism or liberty. 47 years is too long to scream in silence. No new generation of Iranians should inherit fear as their birthright. Iran must be free.

At the United Nations, I confronted a disturbing reality: the Islamic Republic has been granted an advisory role at the UN Human Rights Council. Yes, the same regime that massacres protesters and shoots them in the eyes is now positioned to lecture the world on human rights. Europe’s hesitation to designate the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization has cost lives. Please listen to my message to Europeans. The time for excuse is over. #Iranmassacre

Kaja Kallas said that there is less freedom of speech in the United States than in Estonia “I come from a country that ranks second in the freedom of speech index, and for me to hear lectures about free speech from a country that ranks 58th in that same index is… interesting,” Kallas said, commenting on criticism from Marco Rubio about freedom of speech in Europe.

The next chapter for Iran must be defined by freedom. The regime clinging on to power by massacring Iranians demanding liberty, by torturing dissidents and cutting off communication, is a desperate regime that knows its days of repression are numbered. The people of Iran have endured enough. They deserve freedom. #MSC2026

The Women, Peace & Security Index just dropped. Top 5: 🇩🇰 Denmark 🇮🇸 Iceland 🇳🇴 Norway 🇸🇪 Sweden 🇫🇮 Finland Notice a pattern? It’s not about GDP. It’s about trust, stability, strong institutions, and social cohesion. Security isn’t just tanks and jets. Sometimes it’s daycare, rule of law, and a society that actually works.

A strong, clear, and unwavering message from @Europarl_EN to the people of Iran: we stand with you. Today, MEPs voted by an overwhelming majority to demand an immediate end to the Iranian regime’s brutal violence and the release of all political prisoners. Sanctions on members of the terrorist IRGC must be fully enforced. No loopholes, no excuses. Iran will be free.

The Committee urgently calls upon the Iranian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Narges Mohammadi and to guarantee her access to independent, professional medical care.
