@RARohde @dougmcneall I tried to estimate this, closest I found: a 27 ton ferry uses 75kg/km of diesel. Of course the ferry probably goes faster and less efficiently, and a tanker is much longer and efficiency improves with the square root of length. The carbon content of fuel oil and diesel are close

@dougmcneall I don't have the numbers in front of me, but my recollection is that it is small. Pipelines and supertankers, etc., are a fairly efficient way of moving things around.

Has anyone got any figures on how much shipping fossil fuels increases the carbon footprint of fossil fuels? Asking for a friend.

@consultantweet you are trying to determine subsistence hours for a sustainable lifestyle? That is going to depend a great deal on what you assume about sustainable technology. To subsist while digging (or hunting) with a pointed stick requires quite many hours per day, imho

If one wanted to design a base accessible lifestyle, what are good base metrics as to how much one needs to fairly contribute to maintain and contribute to a sustainable earth and social platform? One way of looking of this, is what are subsistence hours?

May sound like a conspiracy theory, but I’d almost believe there are thousands of people out there, paid by religious authorities to undermine scientific credibility, such as by discrediting the facts of Evolution. Or are the facts of Evolution just too hard to fathom for some?

@ClareSaxon There seems to be a little trend among elderly and terminally ill to go out on their own terms, by fasting. So there is some literature accumulating on the fine points of doing that - could be a useful life skill in our apocalyptic future.

@consultantweet I think first you have to conclude that there are "useful conversations" happening on twitter, and not just a sort of entertainment. Everyone likes to be entertaining, of course: I think of hashtags as "choosing my stand-up routine venue"!
