In some ways its a pretty genius approach from James HIrd. The process of likely strong candidates just halved by Hird pitching for the role on national tv. Yes he calls for the coaching process to be thorough but it wont be with many candidates now pulling out

If Caro is right & Essendon have told the AFL Hird won’t be coach, then I reckon tonight Hird will rule himself out. IF it’s true I think Welsh deliberately left the door open today so Hird can slam it shut, cause the noise won’t stop if we shut it down, only if Hird does

@SilverTopHurls @shezbabee I think he said it well too. If you publicly say you’re rebuilding it becomes hard to then have the opposite message to players that we are wanting to win every week and there’s no excuses

Why now is Brad being the most transparent? Whats wrong with a “current coach” showing transparency and clarity? Part of the reason I struggled understanding him was he always talked around things. Anyway. Great interview IMO. Wish him well.

@EFCcorrespond @WHWSSweep I think everyone inew the strategy and that it was a rebuild.. He summed it up well, it’s hard to hold them accountable and have them aim to win every week when you publicly say it, so you walk a fine line

@WHWSSweep Yeah, it is a shame some of what he said he couldn't or didn't say publically whilst Coach. Perhaps for the first time in years all the supporters know exactly what the strategy is and we are still a few years away from really competing..

@JamesLowrie24 I know you’re asking for thoughts, but I hope they just assess every option & pick the candidate who presents best, process. I don’t particularly want Hird, I think it will be a media field day, but if he blows the rest out of the water in a proper process I can live with it

My faith has been shaken somewhat in our clubs decision making over the last couple of months. Interested to know what everyone thinks Essendon will do with our next senior coach. (Not what you want us to do, what you think we will do)

Thank you for coming in and clearing the decks Brad. We wouldn’t have the talented kids we do now without the excavation work you did and for that I am grateful. I hope this now ignites a fresh new path forward - not backwards - and we start to earn back the respect we once had. ❤️🖤

@PrinceISname @Cpcc15 Yeah that’s fair I think you’d hope he’d been doing that work as CEO but then of course continues it, I don’t know if the media have spoken on that. If he hadn’t, and now he starts, I agree that’s poor

@JChall22 @Cpcc15 He had 2 years to do his job prior to him moving on then consulting. I don't rate the idea personally but I understand your view on it

We might bring Brad Scott back as interim coach like we have brought Vozzo back to the club

@PrinceISname @Cpcc15 + in fairness at the time he stepped down they said they wanted to keep him around in a consultancy role, so they were upfront, it wasn’t like we brought him back down the track

@PrinceISname @Cpcc15 Why? If you have good people who you think are doing a good job, but you can’t commit to a giant role like the CEO position why wouldn’t you keep them in some way shape or form?

@Bombers_Boss Surely it changes nothing for either of them Merrett still wants a flag asap and the club shouldn’t deviate from the overall strategy, and Ridleys biggest frustration is his body, can’t imagine he’s blaming Scott for that

In my opinion this decision to go this early is as much about keeping Merrett and Ridley as the coaching performance in itself.
