Where is the balance in this Essendon story @trent_kniese? You know you could have still had your ‘sky is falling’ narrative if you put in even just a few words of Langford taking accountability? Any of the following would have sufficed: “It starts with our leaders. Myself included, us leaders of the group, we’re not playing the footy that we want. So first we need to look at ourselves in the mirror and go to work on our own areas and then bring up the group with the rest of us. All of us players are taking that performance to heart and that’s not the effort that we want to give.”
9News Melbourne@9NewsMelb

Essendon legend Tim Watson has come out swinging, declaring his former club is now at 'ground zero'. Meanwhile, two North players have downplayed a training stoush captured exclusively by #9News earlier today. @trent_kniese

@benno_76 @JamesNanks Neither do the ones calling into SEN either, my point was just that most the fans don’t want the coterie groups sticking their nose in, nor do they think the club should go back to Hird

Seemingly sensible people ringing in SEN demanding James Hird coach Essendon again. They're all fucking mental. Long may it continue.

@benno_76 @JamesNanks Think you’ll find 99% of the supporter base thinks the exact opposite of those things lol, just a loud minority being led by former clubmen who can’t keep their mouth shut

@JamesNanks There isn't another club remotely like them. They are so steadfast in their view that the coterie groups should have direct influence on the operations of the club. And will not change, despite irrefutable evidence that model doesn't work anymore.

@JamesLowrie24 Damned if ya do damned if ya don’t. If they didn’t speak all youd hear is “why can’t someone front up and be accountable” Can’t do anything about last week now, but they’ve come out and spoken, which is literally all he could do. Now though they really need to back it up

@Scobey__ Don’t take the clickbait. He said Zach was in a leaders meeting this morning specifically - given he’s got a decade of experience. He also mentioned that they regularly rotate other players through the meetings for both their development, and different views and insights.

@johnnyb7707 @jackww53 @ScooterMcNeice Sorry this is just blind hatred at this point. If you think he’s been worse than Caldwell and Durham the first two rounds this year then I don’t know what to tell you

Want to talk more on this on the podcast tonight. We have two mid 20's players celebrated for grunt in the current midfield mix but in reality they are struggling to get hands on the ball first. We won hit outs by 5 yesterday v Port?

@CraiG_Mc Bang on. Fans oneed to think back to that and how they felt when the score review came up, and realise the fact is, despite how good caddy was esp after half time, that miss was absolutely deflating Basic skill errors that are inexcusable, Caldwell missing his hand another

Say what you want about his coaching, fair enough and not that anyone will care.. But… I highly doubt Brad Scott was intentionally being critical of Caddy’s performance or his miss in front of goal, or blaming that moment as a reason for the way the team played. In my view. He was simply using it to highlight how, when you feel like you’re starting to play better footy and build momentum, moments like that can be deflating for a group, shift energy and impact the team — particularly when it feels like it compounds everything else. We need to remember these footballers are human after all. I honestly don’t believe it was meant as a direct criticism of Caddy at all, just an example within the broader context of what he was saying. Now maybe he didn’t need to say it the way he did or use Caddy as the example. But he’s human too, and doesn’t deserve some of the extreme heat he’s copped over it. There is a level of truth in what he was trying to say within the broader context, and that shouldn’t be ignored either. It’s something that’s hopefully being addressed internally at the club. #GoDons

@jackww53 @ScooterMcNeice He’s the only one getting his hands on it He had 4 less cba than Duz and 9 less than Caldwell yesterday, so there was plenty of opportunity to show how it worked when he’s not there. He’s got gaps and defensive accountability issues too, but he’s winning the footy at least

@ScooterMcNeice While it is hard to blame it all on Parish we have seen it with him before. The midfield sometimes looks better with him out of the team. Now do you take him out or the people around him?

@WizardEnjoyer5 At face value the trades fair, but it didn’t suit dons needs, who lack list space to take multiple players last yr + hawks 1st this year could end up in the 20s. It needed to be a decent player, or earlier picks to get it done. No issues with Hawks offer, nor Dons saying no

@SilverTopHurls @BigRick555 Caldwell was 75% tog anyway, and Durham attended 22 centre bounces, I know Rick saw this stat somewhere cause I saw it too so nothing against you mate but it’s not true. Might’ve been better off it he was only 55% tog, he was horrible 😂

@BigRick555 Caldwell and Duzz where the two biggest culprits yesterday It’s almost like Caldwell forgot all his basic skills and Duzz was fumble as all hell The time on ground is an issue and I’ve also said before we should have fucked Zach off but i don’t think any of that group get a pass

Caldwell gott 55% game time yesterday. Durham hardly played midfield 2 off our toughest players have to sit on the bench or play out off position and watch a bloke who wanted out and a bloke who refuses to defend run around in the midfield It’s fucked

@SilverTopHurls @benlee1979 @essendonfc @PaloAltoNtwks I agree with all of this. The coaches are under enormous pressure - my point is mostly that Norm Smith couldn’t have coached them to a win today with some of the skill and decision making. Both the players (senior in particular) and the coaches should be under the pump

@HeathLyons @JamesLowrie24 @PaulDonGipps Mate I’m not sold on Scott nor am I certain he’s the man to see us through, but these players have been dishing this up for 10 years. Not like this is a Scott era issue, it’s a massive problem he’s not fixed it, but can it be fixed with some of these senior “leaders”?

@JamesLowrie24 @PaulDonGipps Coaches coach players to play their style. Players will commit when they trust the coaches direction. Scott has lost the players. Scott is a majority of the issue.

@SilentGhost263 I’m not super keen to keep harping on about one ball, but Caldwells handballs to players running past have been abysmal Every time they’ve had to stop and it just puts them under pressure

its probably the eternal optimist in me but: our backline has looked reasonably 'ok' when they've had a fighting chance (which hasn't been often today). the youngsters are looking as good as you can expect under siege but most of the scoring issues are up the ground.
