Jim Riley fired up his trade machine and put together a package to bring Joe Ryan to Atlanta. RHP Joe Ryan RHP Ethan Bagwell (#21) OF Conor Essenburg (#12) RHP JR Ritchie Joe Ryan has a 13 million mutual option with a 100K buyout. It seems like he would go into his last arbitration year if this option is declined, since 2026 is only his last arbitration year. (Although he did have 4 pre-arb years, so I’m not sure what would happen if his mutual option is declined?) Would you be okay with the Braves sending this to the Twins for RHP Joe Ryan?

@dylanxshort I will die on the hill that Joc’s “clubhouse presence” helped the Braves win it all in 2021. Just by walking in the room, the team would get better.

I don’t agree with Dom Smith starting over Bart. Dom smith has been horrible against RHP since mid April and doesn’t really make a difference with him in the lineup. Even with the splits vs Dustin May Joey Bart vs RHP all season .304/.353/.522 137 WRC+ Dom Since Mid April VS RHP .246/.294/.326 69 WRC+ What is Walt doing man? We’re desperate for wins right now!

Something else on this play, when I saw it unfold, I thought maybe he was setting up to go to 2nd. But Mike was busting it. I think 1st was his play all along, but still worth pointing out the good job Mike did hustling to 2nd to try and take that option away.

Based of FWAR, Dominic Smith is the 236 out of 256 worst hitter in baseball with at least 200 Plate appearances. He is also the 2nd worst DH with at least 200 plate appearances in front of Ozuna. And more importantly since April 19th he has been the 28th out of 30th worst DH and the 216 out of 221 worst hitters in baseball with a -0.7 FWar in that span, and a 66 WRC+. I love Dominic Smith but this is a business and he needs to be gone quickly.
