I was happy to share the excitement of being inducted today into the National Academy of Medicine @theNAMedicine with fellow class of 2024 members Paola Arlotta (noted stem cell biologist @ArlottaLab) and Tina Stankovic (chair of ENT @StanfordMed), and neurosurgeons Robert Martuza (a great mentor and sponsor from @MGBneurosurgery) and Robert Friedlander (friend and chair of Neurosurgery @PittNeurosurg). We shared memories of our early days together @MGHNeurosurg and the varied and unique scientific journeys that brought us to the National Academy of Medicine. A special day for me to be with these friends, and congrats to all those inducted today!

🚨TOROEDO trial - superbly executed with uniform RT plan QA/no crossover. No difference in either endpoints. What’s next? Refine the strategy. Technology is a means to an end. Reduce volume and dose (gross/elective) with biology based therapy selection. @ASTRO_org #astro25

There is truly an explosion in leptomeningeal disease in cancer right now and we need better education in all aspects of medicine on early diagnosis and urgency of treatment. We’ve gotten better at treating the body, but now it’s time to focus on the CNS #Leptomeningeal #braincancer #CNS This requires TRUE multidisciplinary care! @nlinmd @drsarahsam

@TylerSbrt @PDBrownOnc Interesting! Yes, I remember highlighting this at ASTRO in abstract form. Both arms vols/margins are large. And no real diff. Better cognitive sparing, tracking of infiltrating dz w/ novel imaging➡️ I hope that’s the future of trials. Need smarter targeting, not bigger margins

@PDBrownOnc @JHGLab Agreed. Still a nice study—no difference in PFS or OS is interesting. But when paired with no difference in toxicity, could conclude it doesn’t matter which volumes you use. Possibly true, of course. I favor smaller volumes until I see a larger trial 🙂

NIH funding generated $2.46 for every $1 funded in 2023. Important info for scientific advocacy in the years ahead- science is a quantifiable investment, not just a cost. H/t to @NicoleCRust for sharing! fiercebiotech.com/research/repor…
