I hold a different opinion. I think he’s right about things like domain driven design, bounded context, ubiquitous vocabulary, and the expression of the conceptual domain. I think he’s wrong that computer languages (i.e. languages of procedure) will be the vehicle of that expression. In my mind such languages will become the private domain of the AI’s. We, programmers, will use a different formalism. Something like gherkin, or some other formalized statements of specification. Still formal, still precise, but nothing at all like the sequence, selection, and iteration of computer code. The language we will use will not be procedural, or object oriented, or functional, or anything related to the individual steps executed by a computer. Rather that language will be a declarative specification language. A set of goals that the AI must achieve.

hot take: if you are a programmer you should be able to invert a binary tree from memory, AI or not. It's ridiculously easy and if you can't do it, you should not have a computer science degree
Yuchen Jin@Yuchenj_UW

I’m so glad AI killed LeetCode interviews. For 10 years, tech companies made every engineer grind the same puzzles and prove they could invert a binary tree from memory. Today, the dumbest AI model can walk in and one-shot the entire interview. Thank you, AI.

@sergeynazarovx Yep, they were called forums, and were the reason Stack Overflow was founded in the first place. People like to complain about SO, but it was oh so much worse before.

@CollinRugg Simple battery needs to be decriminalized, especially for circumstances such as this. There should be immediate consequences for being a jackass.

NEW: Seattle man gets beaten up by a local in Hawaii after he threw a massive rock at a monk seal. The man was seen getting pummelled by a local after throwing a rock at the seal on Maui. The man who took matters into his own hands has been awarded a letter of recognition by Republican state Sen. Brenton Awa. "Our attorney over here wants to make it clear we don’t condone violence, but we did make a letter of recognition for Mr. Ambassador of Aloha," he said. The 37-year-old tourist is facing fines of up to $50,000 and jail time.

@MrLeadslinger The upside is you'll never find yourself in a situation where your rifle is in a condition you didn't train for. If your weapon has a safety, you need to train with it. Otherwise, in a defensive situation, you might find it didn't go bang when you needed it to.

It’s interesting to see the replies here about not using the safety on the rifle. I don’t really see the downside in training to engage the safety whenever the rifle comes down to low ready or off your shoulder for movement or manipulation.
Lucas Botkin@LucasBotkin

Utilizing a safety on your rifle is the lowest skill requirement when it comes to shooting. After the first couple weeks of handling a rifle, it should be subconscious. When eyes leave optic - safety comes on. It’s that simple. The safety only slows you down if you suck.

@TheAhmadOsman It's not that they don't know how, it's that it's easier than toggling it off and on. It's still useful to have your laptop sleep when you close the lid at the end of the day.

@greylibertarian @Rothmus That's exactly right. My point, and I think CATO's point, is that even if everything remained static, which it wouldn't, taxing everything wouldn't even cover the yearly deficit. It's further proof that we don't have a tax problem, we have a spending one.

Ambitious thinking it would raise any money. Why would you earn any money over 400k if 100% of it went to taxes? Tell me how that is supposed to play out. You make 390k and your boss says great job, we’re giving you a 50k raise. Why would anyone take that? Hell, why would you, as the person paying payroll, even offer that? If you make 800k per year and you hit June, why would you even work the remaining 6 months?

@ryanscottborman @DocStrangelove2 right, and in this scenario ability is the potential he's armed (dispatch call, reaching for waistband), opportunity (being close to the officers), and intent (also reaching).

@JHarper1986 @DocStrangelove2 “Might” If someone “might” be armed it’s not necessary to shoot them. Even being armed in itself isn’t reason to shoot someone. You have to have an objectively reasonable belief that they have ability, opportunity and intent.
