A Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance committee invited all candidates to meet with us. Each was provided pre-reading and a written brief on antisemitism at Harvard. We met with 15 candidates.

A House Committee report, a DOJ lawsuit, and our own enrollment data all point to the same conclusion: antisemitism at Harvard is systemic, not episodic - and Harvard must address it itself. Joint statement from @HarvardJews, HBS JAA, and HLSA JAN:

A deeply concerning new report from @HarvardJews Alumni Association highlights the plummeting of Jewish student admissions. “Harvard’s Jewish undergraduate enrollment stands at 7 percent today, the lowest level recorded since before World War II and the lowest of any Ivy League institution with reliable data. That is roughly half what it was a decade ago, and less than a third of the 25 percent share Jewish students held for much of the latter twentieth century. Among well-documented peer institutions, no school has seen a steeper recent-decade decline.” In the hearing heard around the world from 2023, I pressed Harvard’s former president Gay on this matter and it was essentially shrugged off as you can see from this testimony. I strongly believe the antisemitism does not just impact students on campus at Harvard; it shapes admissions. Worth a rewatch👇

Harvard's Jewish enrollment collapsing to 7% got me curious about Columbia. I did surname frequency analysis on Columbia's admissions data (h/t @cremieuxrecueil). The results: a 52% decline in Jewish undergrads since 2004, from 19% to 9%. "If it were any other minority..."

Boston-based scientist Marouen Ben Guebila, a Tunisian national affiliated with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and formerly Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, has a history of posting extreme rhetoric online. Examples include: - Comparing Gaza to the Rwandan Genocide and Wounded Knee Massacre - Suggesting U.S. agencies detaining activists are “outsourced to Israel” - Claiming Israel is committing “genocide” in Gaza Imagine being a Jewish employee stuck working with this man.
