I'm trying to figure out the term for this phenomenon: when there's a regulation (say product safety) that isn't enforced, it creates a perverse incentive where unscrupulous companies ignore it and thereby outcompete law-abiding ones that incur compliance costs. Any hints? 🙏🙏

@InnovationMatt Maybe load the dishwasher while you are at it - without being asked. Repetitive tasks are quite good for writer's block. If you were an adult child at my house over Christmas you'd also be proof reading an article or two.

Delighted to share that I've been appointed as the new Australian Privacy Commissioner. I'll be farewelling London for a while and relocating to Sydney to take up the role in February 2024.

New UK Bill on AI Regulation. bills.parliament.uk/publications/5…. Contains interesting idea that any business which develops, deploys or uses AI must have a designated AI officer with duties to ensure the safe, ethical, unbiased and non-discriminatory use of AI by the business.
