@BasedDeptGnrl The theatrics make it almost unwatchable. Grown men grabbing their face crying fake tears is just gross.

The main reason Ameribros love Haaland is because he's not a pussy. He doesn't throw himself on the ground hoping for a whistle, because it's fake and gay and he knows what every American man was taught playing any sport growing up; you don't stop unless you hear a whistle.

When my son was 8 he was an elite soccer player. In a completely non competitive participation trophy league. He'd routinely score a hat trick before half time. Then the coach would put him in goal. Of course that meant the other team wouldn't score. So they started putting him on the other team for the second half. A couple times he scored a hat trick for both teams. And he hated it. Because he wanted to win. Moving to place where there was more competition wasn't an option. By the time he was 11 we'd moved on to guitar. And he became an elite guitar player. In the US, the problem isn't the players - it's the youth leagues.

@JPBillingsgate @PauleyMo67 I’m with you. Kids are so over scheduled. Athletics are fun and supplemental but they’re not endgame. It’s a shame so many are deluded that their kid is the next Messi so instead of having fun and developing a LOVE for the game it becomes a chore.

@PauleyMo67 I'd rather live in a country where we do not expose 8 year-olds (or even 9, 10, or 11 year-olds) to "elite" sports but never win a World Cup than the opposite. That's a good trade IMHO.

When a man won’t take no as an answer! This woman’s neighbor won’t leave her alone because he wants to go out with her & she’s told him no from the first day he asked her,but he just won’t stop stalking her.He shows up at her car & when she tells him no he laughs in her face.

@AlexiLalas I am glad you replied to ask. Sir, the “solution” is change- at the very least real comprehensive change needs to occur. I believe the governments at each level - Federal, State, and Local need to contribute (investments) more to football.

You’ve made it very clear that you think it is simple. So what is your solution?
Historicus@asoto1a3

@AlexiLalas Stop thinking like a capitalist and start thinking like a human being. Football is free everywhere else in the world. It’s not rocket science, it’s pretty fucking simple. Football shouldn’t cost the amount it does in the USA to play. You’re part of the problem.

@ClayTravis A huge piece of this puzzle is the incompetence and dysfunction of US Soccer as an organization. Take the suspension and rehiring of Berhalter as example A. The whole organization needs new leadership. Rip it all down starting at the top.

Extremely lazy — and common — argument. We have the luxury of wealth and a huge population in a sports obsessed country. We can — and should — be great at every sport we play in decent numbers. And millions of kids now play soccer every year. Way more 14 year olds play soccer here than in Belgium.
Uxi@uxixu

@ClayTravis Americans largely don't care about the sport. The best athletes choose the sports we do care about.

Just a putrid take from Lalas. I expected nothing more. It’s crazy to look at how soccer is viewed in other parts of the world vs. the USA. Most countries see soccer as a symbol of everyday working class people taking part in, while in the USA it’s all pay to play bougie class.
Alexi Lalas@AlexiLalas

Youth soccer (youth sports) is a competitive market with businesses selling a product that obviously customers are willing to pay for. I’d love if soccer was free to all. But who is going to pay for all this free soccer?

The reason football is the biggest sport in the world is because it’s so accessible and needs barely any equipment to play. I honestly don’t understand how America has managed to monetize it to the point accessibility and cost is apparently a big problem.

what if our best male athletes simply don't like soccer because it's boring to play and they realize this in 4th or 5th grade and quit like 99% of us and that's it. maybe no "system" can improve soccer with young US dudes because soccer itself is the problem.

@skoonky22 @CarliLloyd So only men can comment on men’s soccer? Or is it people who play at a specific competitive level? Anyone with eyes knows that was a dumpster fire. If their tender egos (or your’s) can’t survive that critique then the round of 16 is as far as it’ll ever go.

@CarliLloyd To be fair Carli, you wouldn't have started on a lottttttt of boys high school teams in your prime evidenced by your team getting blown out by 15 year old boys. Dont play the expert crap like ppl cant have opinions. Men who played D3 college played better competition than you.
