Trump just killed a bipartisan affordable housing bill that passed the Senate 85–5 /the House 358–32 while people are drowning in rent, mortgages, inflation, & high gas and energy bills. But sure, tell us all how this billionaire “populist” dickhead is fighting for working people. MAGA got conned.

@JohnPatter32606 @Door_County_Jim That’s called putting a tag down on a player. both players acted as though there was a play so no obstruction

@JOHNKELLYJK @Door_County_Jim Wrong. The defensive player does NOT have a right to make contact with the runner after ball 4 is called. Ball 4. Runner is awarded 2nd base, UNIMPEDED. Prior to reaching 2nd, he was impeded by way of a defenders glove hitting his hand. That is obstruction.

@TwinsAlmanac If you have a buffer zone on the bases then pitchers will want one for the strike zone

Probably unpopular opinion and a headache to enforce, but I’ve always thought that if you initially touch the base and the base remains between all four of your limbs, you should be considered in possession of the base. Don’t love the out calls where a guy’s belly button is determined to have come off the bag upon replay. (And guys, ball four is live for Christ’s sake.)

@JohnPatter32606 @Door_County_Jim The player had all the right to made a play tho. No matter what the call of the pitch is many times catchers will still throw down and enact a tag. What if the pitch is over turned? Or a wild ball?

@JOHNKELLYJK @Door_County_Jim It’s impeding him because he has no right to make a play on the player stealing second once ball 4 is called. I agree that the call was correct, simply pointing out that they missed a completely separate call.

In case anyone is wondering @cubs @mlb. The rule was interpreted wrong. He never slid PAST the base-he had yet to establish possession of the base.

@jeffwagnerradio It’s not difficult to figure out, especially since the organization has said many times why. They do not want Lara’s development to be stymied by calling him up for a temporary or parttime role. Lockridge on his way back makes that role even less. It’s easy to know why if a fan.

Hard to criticize many decisions by the Brewers this season BUT I still don't understand why Luis Lara, a defensive star currently hitting .327 isn't in the Majors and Blake Perkins (.157) is. mlb.com/pirates/news/b…

@veets23 @Brett_A_Taylor Can't do that. What constitutes "establishing contact with the base"? And what happens if ball 4 is overturned to strike 2?

On all walks, throw to a base where a runner is arriving, tag hand/foot BEFORE it arrives (since, you know, that's not obstruction apparently), mess with his trajectory, & hope it knocks him off the base as he puts his hand or foot down. Keep applying the tag, & it's a free out.

@ScoringChanges The rule you cite does not address any impact the fielders glove has on the runners hand coming off the base. This rule is also crystal clear and could apply. In this instance, he could be interpreted as being safe.

The thing I don’t understand is that if MLB is calling “by the letter of the law” then why isn’t this obstruction? This feels like the kind of ruling I’d see in an NFL game by officials who won’t see a playoff game in their lifetime. Weird.

Pete Crow-Armstrong is ruled out at second base after initially contacting second base and losing possession of the base. Crow-Armstrong had initially advanced to second base on a walk. Cubs manager Craig Counsell has been ejected.

@_TheBBQBarn He’s not forced to do anything bc of the call or throw. Teams throw down in full count walks and strikeouts all the time. Just reread your second paragraph and end it there

Plays like this are what's ruining the game. I completely understand a walk doesn't stop play and that he was on the base then off the base. The problem is, due to the walk the runner is granted 2nd base, but because of the throw and not being able to hear the ball call, he's forced to slide and attempt to avoid the tag. It's that action that causes his body come off of the bag. If he's granted 2nd base safely due to the walk, as he's supposed to be, the tag attempt should never happen in the first place. This is what happens when you remove common sense from sports.
