@JPRennquist @dirtyblondedon @DamonFarber Yeah. There’s definitely a shift away from that attitude at play in the town. Others still very much feel that way, though. And thanks for the ideas on where to go digging for more information.

@frozenagitation @JonSCollins Not my district but I will definitely be following the story. The non-inclusiom of the candidate story is a head scratcher. This was a real feature story with a photographer and they spent time with her "day in the life." Hard to believe that never came up.

A day after the Star Tribune reports that attorney Sarah Gad will challenge U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, Gad is featured in a profile in the Washington Post with no mention of the race. It also doesn't mention her previous run for Congress. washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2023…

@DaphSci @JonSCollins We have a city council candidate who is formerly incarcersted and who is an addict in long term recovery in Duluth right now. She has the DFL endorsement. I have numerous close connections to her and am not commenting or endorsing as I still occasionally work as a journalist.

@chrisplys @mikenothnagel Lifelong music and concert lover here. The rule in my house was no rock concerts before age 18. My mom said "You'll see them in college" use mom voice. So I heard from friends about R.E.M., Prince (tons of times), Boston, Outfield, MJJ, GnR, and, ugh, Pink Floyd. Lost my chance.

@TheJvandy @dirtyblondedon @DamonFarber Study the air force closing and find someone who will talk to you about that. And definitely drive up there. Various opinions but CW was that poor people were offered cheap (but inadequate & isolated) housing with limited support. Xenophobia unlocked.

@dirtyblondedon @DamonFarber Yeah. There’s a separate wayfinding project to help get people off Highway 61 and into town. Both of these should help. Silver Bay’s location is so good.

@TheJvandy I got this right on instinct then went with the Grand Marais hospital instead because I couldn't imagine Silver Bay redesigning anything. My grandpa helped build that town. Provided lots of work during a lean time in the 50s according to family lore.

The full vision: Downtown Silver Bay, a place for embarking on Superior Hiking Trail journeys to Tettegouche State Park, a culinary and provisioning stopover, a live music venue, a launch site for biking the Gichi Gami Trail along the shore, and ideally, a place of residence.

The plan offers a path for organically and incrementally building out the city's downtown over the next decades as opportunities arise.

@TheJvandy @dirtyblondedon @DamonFarber Then North shore Mine essentially toppled in about 1981 and it was like the magic trick where you pull a tablecloth of the table. Only everything spilled so bad example. Walk through the high school sometime and look at the senior portraits and what happens about 1981 to 90. 3-3

@TheJvandy @dirtyblondedon @DamonFarber The town should be kissing the feet or providing throwaway TIFs to the North Shore Adventure park business because I have never seen anything that made me want to pull over in Silver Bay more than that.

This is one I never would have shared 10 years ago as it is like a signature move for the right situation, but I'm feeling generous with the passing of Gord yesterday. It only works with the Sarah McLachlan version. Great way to end the night or close a high BPM set.
