@Knox32450036 @CentreMetre @ZoomerHistorian The US is the only country to have ever invoked NATO Article 5 and your allies responded. The US is being a bad ally by consistently starting wars of aggression and asking for help. The US recently claimed allied territory Greenland. The US consistently aids NATO enemy Israel.

@fut_trader_D @_carson_72 Yep, in Scotland theyve been busy building cycle lanes and introducing ULEZ. Meanwhile nobody cycles because it's too cold and wet

@JPaaronm @_carson_72 It’s backwards and nonsensical, in central London it can work, but not where most people in the U.K. live. It’s just plain authoritarianism, BTEC China at this point.

@fut_trader_D @_carson_72 I think these policies are intended to get people on bikes and public transport by making driving so painful that it becomes unappealing, rather than making bikes and public transport appealing. They hate cars and have an silly vision of everyone on bicycles, buses and trains.

@_carson_72 In a world where there’s enough idiots to fall for their lunatic policies, I’d be doing 55mph in 3rd gear just out of spite. It’s funny though, this is the first environmental policy I’ve seen from the ‘greens’ since they switched to leftist extremism.

@RogerOfBorg @MDC12345678 I think it's intentionally impossible, it's a way to stop people driving and get them onto public transport which is a leftist ideal. They hate cars.

Reducing speed limits to 55mph and forcing people to retake their driving test every 5 years would be an assault on autonomy and individual freedom. This isn’t about climate change, the environment or road safety (we have some of the safest roads in the world). Ultimately, Polanski and the Greens want to replace freedom as the organising principle of our society. It’s about the imposition, through social engineering, of a pre-modern vision for how people should live - one that denies the reality of trade-offs and plural values. It is a vision that Dale Vince is very clear about when he says in his book “Manifesto” that “modern life is the cause of so many problems”. The rise of this kind of idealised thinking in our politics - both left and right - is both regressive and very dangerous. The 20th century shows that we are playing with fire.

@Santillei_ @RomaEdson297463 @RealCernunnos @mimikkiki Just as those populations decided to leave, the population of the Falklands decided to be British. 99.8% in favour. Argentina's claim to the Falklands is no different than if they were to claim Uruguay. It is a claim of aggression, against the will of the inhabitants.

@Santillei_ @RomaEdson297463 @RealCernunnos @mimikkiki The United Provinces are not only Argentina. They claimed the entirety of the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata. If Argentina uses this precedent, then they also claim Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay and part of Chile. United Provinces briefly illegally settled the Falklands.

In South Africa I went on a hike in Cape Town to a beautiful lookout, Signal Hill. At the top there was a wine tasting. I then walked down a trail that goes by a military base, to a rich suburb. I was very seriously warned by a local, wealthy, brown-skinned man that multiple hikers had been murdered for their wallets and that I should take a taxi home. Sure enough, when I passed by the military base some black men who clearly didn't belong there were watching me from rooftops. So I got out of there as quickly as possible. At the bottom I continued to walk to my quite nice hotel... and got followed for multiple blocks by a physically aggressive black panhandler who wouldn't take no for an answer. Following that I went on another hike, up Table Mountain under the gondola. Again, it's a highly developed tourist destination. And again, multiple locals warned me that I really shouldn't go alone because there was a good chance I'd be mugged, or worse. Hell, there's official signs up warning hikers to hike in groups of at least three (four if they're women). Following that I visited Johannesburg. Or at least, I would have. Except a South African friend of mine who lives near there said I really shouldn't go to the downtown area by myself least I get murdered. So I skipped that and did more hiking. Again with warnings that travelling solo was a bad idea. ...and don't get me started about how that trip, I saw more rolling power outages in peacetime South Africa then I did at my next destination, wartime Kyiv, while Russia was actively trying to destroy the electricity grid. When I was recently in Kramatorsk, Eastern Ukraine, I had half a day off. So I asked a soldier friend of mine where I could safely walk. He said I could go anywhere safely: military checkpoints would keep me from going too far east. Russians might kill you (just the other day a 13 year old boy was killed by a Russian attack on a market). But even after over a decade of war and poverty the locals won't. And yes, even in Kramatorsk you see young teen girls, by themselves, walking around at night. You do _not_ see that in Cape Town. The problem with Africa isn't just "underdeveloped parts". The problem is the stupid, violent, black population who make even the developed parts shit.

@AlrxCox House prices reflect affordability. Low interest rates today make prices higher. Double incomes make prices higher. There are other differences today, such as people wanting to have it all (nice cars, eating out, holidays) that back in the day, we'd forego to afford a house.

The triple lock is honestly one of the worst policies ever thought of. Many of the people who say the benefits bill is too high are the ones making up 48% of it. That’s £150.7 billion so people who had the easiest housing ladder, the best savings rates and the best private pension rates can get a bigger pension than they ever paid in for. It’s a joke of a policy and I wholeheartedly disagree with it.

@THemingford @twill_94 @andyecfc @dannyswfc1867 You're absolutely right. Time for layoffs and let's enshitify our product to reduce costs. Now we will have fat margins and can rake in the money. Well done on being a textbook capitalist sir. If they raise minimum wage we will layoff and enshitify even harder!

@DanFriedman81 America gladly used nukes in WW2 when there was no retaliation risk, and the goal was simply to force Japan's surrender and intimidate the Soviet Union. They weren't so interested in ideological spread. It sent a clear message and made America appear invincible.

@DanFriedman81 Nuking cities leaves you with nothing valuable to conquer, isn't a very convincing way to prevent the spread of communism, and of course would spark a counter attack from the Soviet Union. There was nothing noble in not using nukes, it just wasn't feasible to do so.

The atomic bomb changed the way nations conducted war. Powerful nations held back because they did not want to risk engaging in conflicts where these horrors could occur. The Soviets lost a war to an inferior force in Afghanistan and America lost in Vietnam, because neither superpower was willing to escalate in ways that could risk direct conflict between them. The limits and rules powerful nations placed on themselves — the concept of “war crimes” and the “rules based international order” were created to prevent catastrophic wars and have held up since then. But those rules will not remain the rules if inferior forces start droning Americans. These people mistake our restraint for weakness and literally don’t understand that the only reason a country like Iran can survive a war with with us is our self-imposed limits on the horrors we inflict on our enemies. And if they do something bad enough, those limits won’t be there anymore.

@andyjameshicks @luro1909 I have had truly horrible Traveldoges, especially in big cities. If it's a new built no difference. But travelodge has a lot of rancid old buildings tha are rotted with mold or broken. Worst I had at PI was bad Management now knowing the difference between twin and double rooms
