How to stop losing money trading options: 1. Most options expire worthless. If you're only buying options, the math is working against you. Start selling options instead of buying them. Let theta work in your favor, not against you. 2. Stop buying short-dated options. Every single day that passes, your contract loses value. The closer to expiration, the faster it decays. If you're going to buy, buy LEAPs - one year or more until expiration. Time becomes your ally instead of your enemy. 3. Sell options on stocks you actually want to own. Get paid premium while you wait for your price. If the stock drops to your strike, you get assigned at a discount. If it doesn't, you keep the cash and do it again next month. 4. Use charts before every trade. RSI, support levels, moving averages. Whether you're buying or selling, the entry matters. A good strategy with a bad entry is still a losing trade. 5. Stop treating options like lottery tickets. The traders who survive long term aren't hitting home runs. They're collecting singles, managing risk, and letting the framework do the work. Most people lose money on options because they buy the wrong contracts at the wrong time with no plan. Fix those three things and you fix most of the problem.
