BRAVA! SHE should be NY senator
Kadia Goba@kadiagoba

.@AOC to reporters just now: "There are members of Congress who have won Trump held districts in some of the most difficult territories in the United States; who walked the plank and took innumerable risks in order to defend the American people...just to see some Senate Democrats even consider acquiescing to Elon Musk. I think it is a huge slap in the face, and I think that there's a wide sense of betrayal."

Our democracy needs more defenders . as fror LA: LA often gets a bad rap. Yes, the traffic, the homeless problem and the high cost of living (especially the gap between rich and poor) can demoralize even lifetime residents; the fixation on superficial luxuries and appearances can exasperate you. But none of those negatives — nor the serial natural disasters — define LA. It has long been one of the most diverse (and hence creative) places in the country, its vibrant history and rich cultural tradition too often undervalued. wapo.st/42af0Ca

A depressingly high number of elected Democrats are declaring their intent to find “common ground” with President-elect Donald Trump and his crackpot Cabinet picks. Their naive, tone-deaf declarations epitomize an infatuation with bipartisanship for bipartisanship’s sake. Sometimes, it’s better not to bend the knee before the bidding even gets underway. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/…

In a bleak election cycle for Democrats, Rep. @RubenGallego defeated Kari Lake in the Arizona Senate race, outpacing Kamala Harris by roughly four points and by nine points among Latino men, @JRubinBlogger writes. Democrats want to know how he did it: wapo.st/3ZGtCXb

Democrats should decide on some red lines they will never cross. Whatever the merits of the underlying legislation, they can agree, for example, to reject life-threatening gambits (e.g., vaccine bans). Likewise, they must be emphatic that they will never approve blatantly unconstitutional measures (using the military to round up immigrants, a national abortion ban, retaliation against political enemies). Similarly, Democrats must be clear about the sort of measures, imperfections and all, they likely will feel compelled to support (funding the military, protecting Social Security). washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/…

Abigail Spanberger

I’m running to serve as Virginia’s next Governor, because I want to get things done on the issues that unite us: our schools, the safety of our kids, and the future of our fundamental rights. In Congress, I have a record of bringing people together. I’ll do the same in Richmond.

"If she can persuade voters sick of politics to listen to her common-sense appeal, Spanberger stands a good chance to win," @JRubinBlogger writes. wapo.st/3V4SdmM

If a news organization offers up financial tribute or shies from endorsing an opponent, readers and viewers have every right to question its impartiality, aggressiveness and spine. The sort of behavior we have witnessed from many legacy outlets will not help win back audiences who have lost faith in them. (Progressives are horrified; right-wingers will never patronize them.) Maintaining financial and personal distance from the president, whom news organizations are obligated to investigate and hold accountable, should not be difficult. If people in positions of public trust, whether in elected office or in media, do not demonstrate — in deed and word — sufficient courage, fidelity to democracy and resistance to authoritarian manipulation, we will tip into a kakistocracy without much of a fight. Sadly, the past few weeks have not been encouraging. wapo.st/3DrsG1i

Since Biden began considering an amnesty for people at risk of retribution from Trump and his FBI pick (who has an enemies list), myth-spinning about pardons have spread, @JRubinBlogger writes. Biden should pay attention to history and case law: wapo.st/4gAqgMb

Abortion advocates see a few wins — and more tragedies wapo.st/4iH1tba Millions of women living under abortion bans are counting on Democrats to hold Republicans responsible for dangerous forced-birth laws and to underscore that state abortion protections are not sufficient to prevent the rise in maternal and infant deaths. Democrats need to pound home the message: For women and infants, theirs is the only “pro-life” party.

Biden must ignore pardon myths and protect Patel’s and Trump’s targets wapo.st/41AWiDy If ordinary citizens face retribution for daring to testify against powerful bullies, few will do so. To preserve the justice system, to encourage people to provide evidence, Biden should grant them amnesty — in effect setting up a witness protection program. It is the least he can do for selfless Americans

McConnell unquestionably enabled the architect of “America First” to return to power (even endorsing him in 2024). Now he has the chutzpah to wring his hands about American isolationism and a possible Russian triumph in its war of aggression.... here is how he partially atones wapo.st/3DcNs4O
