@jrysana You’re supposed to make those types of points in the replies. Community notes weren’t designed to make minor points and my post was accurate.

I’ve been unfairly community noted on this post. If any community notes reviewers could honestly review it I would appreciate it. The NART is strongly correlated with general intelligence (g) at ~0.85 so it’s reasonable to describe it as an IQ test. “The National Adult Reading Test (NART) shows a strong correlation with general intelligence (g), typically in the range of r ≈ 0.70–0.85 depending on the study and sample.” homepages.abdn.ac.uk

You can literally test someone’s IQ in 90 seconds by asking them to pronounce 50 words. The more they get correct, the higher their IQ.

The biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history. So everyone on a O1 or H1B visa would have to stop working legally in the US, go back to their country and wait for years of backlog? This includes top scientists in our universities, founders of billion dollar companies (at least 3 just in our portfolio would be affected by the way). And if we look at individual countries it becomes even more bs. Indians would have to wait decades. Russians don’t have anywhere to go (there is no US embassy in Russia, hello?). This is the worst imaginable way to disrupt important work for the country and pretend you’re fighting some loophole.
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

@Hitchslap1 In particular the 131+ range is actually quite common in many ethnicities so that cutoff is really quite significant.

@jrysana "Regular" is doing a lot of heavy lifting. There are hundreds of millions living 3rd world lives. Those owning half a dozen luxurious apartments are very upper class.

I'm intrigued by the people who claim China's population is actually overreported by ~4x, which would take their supposed GDP PPP from $30k to the US's $90k all the way up to $120k - in some ways, this makes sense? Americans are clearly much wealthier than Europeans still ofc.
Saad.@SaadInCyber

All you need to know about the great power competition bw US and China is that working age adult Americans are competing on who can eat most like a medieval peasant while China is essentially serving the equivalent of a 3 course meal to every middle school kid.

Nooit!

@bbalkus @pmarca @washingtonpost I agree. But that doesn’t make them not German, because German ethno-national identity is compatible with American assimilation like English or Roman Catholic identity, and UNLIKE for example Pakistani or Congolese identity.

@jrysana @pmarca @washingtonpost Yes, and the Germans from Operation Paperclip became American citizens, lived in the country for decades post WWII, and deliberately and enthusiastically assimilated into American culture so they could become “real Americans” in Von Braun’s words.

@bbalkus @pmarca @washingtonpost Ethnicity =/= Nationality =/= Citizenship If you pick up a Pakistani gang rapist from London at 3pm and give him an express American citizenship at 4pm, that doesn't make him "American". You need to actually assimilate into American nationality to BE American.

@jrysana @pmarca @washingtonpost I am part German by ethnicity and my wife has 100% German ancestry. I am not anti-German and I am not diminishing German contributions. I am putting them in their appropriate historical context. American is not an ethnicity. Arnold Schwarzenegger is American as anyone.

@bbalkus @pmarca @washingtonpost You're dodging my questions. Are you anti-immigration or anti-German or anti-Germanic? What is the motive for your diminishing of German contributions to America? By the way, America is a nation not just a state. Being an American citizen does not make you American, it's deeper.
