🔴Dear public, Why would a NURSE be allowed to perform an endoscopy procedure (ERCP) + seriously harm/kill 68 patients in Rotherham NHS Trust @RotherhamNHS_FT 💀☠️ ⭕️ERCP is an invasive procedure strictly performed by consultant hepatobiliary surgeons. ⭕️The spineless doctors have also failed their patients by allowing this “self-confident” nurse consultant to even think about performing ERCPs. ⭕️She obfuscated her role and misled the patients. These are the repercussions of a flat hierarchy.

meaning surgeons fixate on things visible on imaging… but risk remaining blind to things only seen when surgically explored… imaging is but one part of the picture.

I'm far from alone in this experience. Patients see far too many failed parathyroid surgeries by scan guided surgeons, & the hell they endure having to fight for a second surgery. Many believe bilateral exploration is the gold standard to increase chances of successful surgery.

If my first #parathyroid surgeon had just looked at the upper left parathyroid gland after removing the lower left in 2012 (sheffield) he could have saved me a 9 year battle to get someone else to finish the job. 14 years later, & other patients are still fighting the same battle

To be very clear- no criticism of the lecture or lecturer which was great. But it’s a pretty sobering reminder of how utterly crap we are as a profession of backing off & NOT doing stuff to ppl, even when the evidence is robust that the harms vastly outweigh benefits. #ASGBI2024
