Despite the early morning downpour yesterday in Warri and its environs, I embarked on an inspection of the following projects: (a) The Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road in Warri South LGA; (b) Ayakoromor Bridge across the Forcados River and the Approach Road at Egbo-Ide/Ayakoromor in Ughelli South and Burutu LGAs; (c) The 5.7 KM Olomoro/Igbide Road in Isoko South LGA; and (d) The stretch of Sector C1 of the Ughelli/Asaba Expressway. Addressing newsmen after the inspection exercise, I expressed satisfaction with what Setraco Nig. Ltd. is doing on the Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road project. At the Ayakoromor Bridge project, I frowned at the slow pace of work and directed the HCW highway & Urban Roads, the functioning PS of the Ministry of Works, the contractor, the Zonal Engineer, and the Site Engineer to be in my office next week for a follow up meeting on the project.

I was delighted to grant an audience to the management team of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Francis Layi Fatona, in Government House, Asaba, today. Having acquired Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC's) 100 percent equity in the SPDC/Total/Agip Joint Ventures and also being 100 percent Nigerian, I am fully persuaded that the firm is well positioned to lead the energy industry in Africa. I assured the management team of the safety of their investment in the state and also charged the Energy Company to engage our people by creating employment opportunities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Also today, I met with beneficiaries of the Delta Covid-19 Action Recovery and Stimulus (D-CARES) Programme at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, during a Town Hall meeting. This program holds a special place in my heart. In alignment with the MORE Agenda of our administration, upon assuming office, we initiated the implementation of a blueprint that provides opportunities to all Deltans regardless of their socio-economic status. I approved the release of funds to support the activities of the D-CARES Programme across various delivery platforms. I was thrilled to see the large number of happy Deltans whose lives and businesses have been positively impacted. Moving forward, I have words of appreciation for the entire D-CARES team for prioritizing the people in their work and urge them not to rest in their efforts. To the beneficiaries, I extend my congratulations and encourage them to seize the opportunities provided by the program to pave a new path towards economic freedom.

Today, l had an exhilarating moment with residents of Upper and Lower Erejuwa Road in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area as I went about inspecting ongoing construction works in the city. It was a similar story as I inspected the Ohore, Ugolo-Adagbrasa Road with a spur to Evwriyen in Okpe Local Government Area. Though satisfied with the quality of work done so far, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the pace of work.

I had the honour of presiding over the grand opening of Ten Metric Ton per hour palm oil mill owned by Norsworthy. The Ultra modern oil processing firm will maximise our competitive advantage in Palm oil production and also provide job opportunities for our teeming youth population. Congratulations to the Managing Director of Norsworthy, Mr. Gabriel Ogbechie for re-inventing the wheels of palm oil production in our state.

The inauguration of a 10-tonnes-per-hour oil palm processing mill by Norsworthy Farms and Agro Allied Industries at Akwukwu-Igbo in Delta State's Oshimili North local government area this afternoon exemplifies a successful public-private partnership that will enhance the economy of our great state. While speaking at the event, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended the former Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for supporting the mill's establishment and urged more investors to emulate Gabriel Ogbechie's example by investing in Delta's economy as the state is safe for investors and has lots of opportunities that can be explored. The Governor further reiterated his administration's commitment to fostering food security by providing farmers with markets for their products and making agricultural produce exportable for added value.

Today l joined all patriots in remembering and paying tributes to the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that our nation, Nigeria, can remain united. As l stood in their solemn remembrance at the Cenotaph on High Court Road in Asaba, laying a wreath at the feet of the Unknown Soldier, it was clear that their sacrifice and valor will forever be etched in the minds of Nigerians. May God continue to bless their dearly departed souls.

Happy and prosperous New Year to Deltans and residents. I assure you, the people of Delta, of our unwavering commitment to sustainable development and progress through our MORE Agenda. This past year has been challenging, yet eventful, and I am grateful for the support and cooperation we have received. Despite economic challenges, I urge us to remain united, peaceful, and prayerful. With the amazing support I enjoy from the legislature, the judiciary, the civil service, traditional and religious leaders and my team of political appointees, I am very optimistic of advancing Delta State in 2024. I am confident that with our collective efforts, we will achieve even more in governance and development this year. We have already made significant strides, including signing our 2024 Budget into law and initiating major infrastructure projects. Moving forward, security and peaceful coexistence will remain vital for our state's advancement. We have been doing our best to ensure that the developmental needs of the state are attended to by applying the level of prudence and fiscal discipline that the present challenges demand. I am optimistic about the year ahead and believe that it holds great blessings for our people. Let us approach it with determination and hope. On behalf of my family, the Government, and the people of Delta State, I wish you all a prosperous new year.
