@JVARGAS82 @DJRTistic Not mad at that at all. Dre is gonna be most folks picks but Dre got so big it felt like he started making music for the world after a while. Quik’s music always felt like he was making it for LA first and foremost.

@DragonflyJonez @DJRTistic My personal take: the greatest west coast producer conversation starts at DJ Quik. Love Dre & there's no other bigger icon than him (arguably in hip-hop history), but Quik's production made even street records sound funky and smooth with some live instrumentation. A craftsman.

@DJRTistic And wild shit is I won’t argue with anyone who says Alchemist is the greatest producer ever in their eyes. He’s definitely got the body of work to back that. But he is absolutely not a top 2 west coast producer. Yeah he’s from out there but his production is not west coast.

@damanr Also, Apple may have inadvertently helped themselves in the push for AI (LLM chatbots/agents) by being so terrible w/Siri. I think the AI race is going to end up with one of OpenAI or Claude being absorbed into a major player like Google w/Apple creating a local LLM on device.

I’ve made the comparison a few times before, and worth bringing up again on the news of Tim Cook’s retirement, but the Steve Jobs to Tim Cook transition reminds me of the David Stern to Adam Silver transition. Stern left at the right time because I think he was not going to handle the next part well, managing the new massive influx of money and the new crop of ownership and player empowerment was not going to be an easy job for him. Similarly, Steve Jobs was not built to manage what Apple is today, Tim Cook was the right guy at that time. Like Silver, Tim’s not a product guy, but he leveled up the operations, and properly monetized it. But, Apple finds itself at an inflection point, and they needed to put the company back into the hands of a product-oriented guy, and John Ternus is exactly that. I do think the NBA is in a similar inflection point, and they need a similar change in leadership at this point in time.

@JVARGAS82 @dejonpaul_ Jay Worthy is cool. But his subject matter becomes very redundant. I find myself listenting to him less and less. Aktive is a classic L.A. record though. And I love the shyt he does with Harry Fraud.

I think that Kendrick did his part for LA. He invited a bunch of LA rappers to perform in front of millions on stream at The Pop Out. He put a bunch of new LA rappers on “GNX”. They didn’t follow up with any hit records or classic projects. That’s on them, not on Kendrick.

There’s a ton of lessons people can and should take about how Raj has built what he’s built, but there’s an element of Raj’s spirit that is also incredibly hard to replicate. He’s earned everything and more that he’s achieved - more to come.

This is me purely speculating, but I can see Chris Paul joining the Lakers. He is a veteran and if he's stayed in shape, he can definetly play. I’m assuming CP3 is a player JJ Redick would trust and the Lakers need guards right now.
