This is sooo true! Just because it’s not mandatory doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be for you! Coaches can’t want it more than you do. If you can meet in the middle the result will change your season, and even more then that it will change your culture! Trust me it MATTERS!!

“You’ve gotta win the weight room before you can expect to win on Friday nights.” I heard that for over a decade of coaching. No matter how hared I tried. It didn’t work. Why? It was me “trying hard” and not the kids. They didn’t care as much as I did. And then…2 sophomores were tired of losing. On their own, they made a commitment to the weight room. Then 2 more teammates followed, then the team. Our weight room culture hasn’t been the same since. No surprise one of those sophs ended up scoring 124 TDs (passing and rushing) by his senior year and played football @UW_Football. The other threw Javelin at the UW as well. Moral of the story. Keep at it coach. Your hard work will payoff. And there are champions walking the halls of your school. Just find 2+ that are willing to do the work. Others will follow.
