The Israeli Knesset approved in its second and third readings an extension of the amended Emergency Regulations Law known as the Al Jazeera Law for a period of two years and turned it into permanent legislation without linking it to a state of emergency, as had been the case when it was enacted as a temporary measure in April 2024. Under this law, the offices of the Al Jazeera Network were closed and its operations were banned in Jerusalem and Israel on 5 May 2024. In September of the same year, the Israeli occupation army raided Al Jazeera’s office in Ramallah under a military order, handed staff a decision to shut down the office, confiscated all equipment and documents, and barred employees from using their vehicles. Since then, the occupation authorities have issued several decisions extending the closure of the office based on the same allegations. Al Jazeera Network has denied all the accusations cited by the Israeli government, describing them as baseless fabrications.

Private Israeli firms support a global industry of surveillance, hacking, and espionage tools that are now deployed in more than half of the world’s countries, including states that present themselves as democracies. These technologies are used for everything from digital monitoring to practices tied to repression and serious violations of privacy. Their deployment grants users sweeping access to vast amounts of personal data through unlawful methods such as hacking and covert spying. In many cases, this is not limited to targeting individuals, but expands into mass population surveillance, as seen most clearly in Palestine. 1/3

Israeli forces on Monday bulldozed agricultural land in the town of Silat al-Harithiya, west of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian media reported, quoting local officials. The mayor of Silat al-Harithiya, Samir Zayoud, told local media that Israeli bulldozers began early in the morning, levelling farmlands in the Suruj area, located between Silat al-Harithiya and Ya'bad. He added that the lands, which have grown olive trees for over 30 years, are classified as state lands and cover an area estimated at 45 hectares.
