Mr. Abdullahi brings a distinguished record of leadership spanning Somalia’s governance, humanitarian, and development sectors. His professional experience includes work with leading international organizations such as UNHCR, UNICEF, and the ICRC, alongside recent advisory and technical roles across key ministries in Jubaland. With a strong blend of institutional expertise and field-based insight, Mr. Abdullahi is well-positioned to guide the Institute into its next phase of growth. His appointment marks a forward-looking chapter for the Juba Valley Institute, anchored in credibility, reform, and measurable impact. We warmly welcome Mr. Abdullahi to this leadership role and look forward to the vision and direction he will bring.

This evening, Thursday 29th May 2025, the Juba Valley Institute will be hosting a business finance forum focusing on “Creating an Enabling Environment for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises(SMEs) at the institute’s headquarters in Siinay, Kismayo. The forum brings together members of the Kismayo business community, political representatives, intellectuals, civil society organizations and general public together to share knowledge and experience on best practices to advance the interests of SMEs in Jubaland. The forum will comprise keynote speeches by selected guest speakers as well as a panel discussion whose panelists are representatives from major banks operating in Jubaland and the state’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

SPA & @JV_Institute Executive Directors @MahadWasuge & @Hannan_Hodhan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Kismayo. The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration between SPA and JVI in research & analysis, dialogue & training to support effective governance in Somalia.

Sunday, 25th May 2025 Kismayo The Juba Valley Institute Executive Director Hodhan Noor Abdi @Hannan_Hodhan and @somalipubagenda Public Agenda Executive Director, @MahadWasuge, have signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the two organizations on common areas of work. This MoU opens the doors to cooperation between SPA and JVI in research and analysis, dialogue, and training to support effective governance and public service delivery in Somalia

The Juba Valley Institute has successfully hosted a Climate Finance Forum in Kismayo on Friday, the 23rd of May. The forum whose panelists were the Director General at the Jubaland State’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Aden M. Hudle @Adenmohamedhudl, the Rector at the Kismayo Branch of Plasma University and the Director of the Climate Solutions Office at Hormuud Group Mr. Hassan Abdulkadir Hassan @Hassanabdulkadr focused on the climate finance situation in Somalia, the role of the private sector and educational institutions in advocating for sufficient financing for climate solutions, strategies that can be used to access the global climate change funds by Somalia, strengthening and capacitating government institutions to effectively deal with the climate conundrum and local issues affecting the Jubaland public in relation to climate change among other issues of import. The forum is part of a series of events and publications by the institute designed to draw attention to and raise awareness among the Somali citizenry on climate change.

The Juba Valley Institute will be hosting a Climate Finance Forum titled “Unlocking Climate Finance for Sustainable Development: From Policy to Practice” at the institute’s headquarters in Kismayo on Friday evening 23rd May at 7:30 PM. The forum brings together the Director General at the Jubaland State’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Aden M. Hudle @Adenmohamedhudl, the Rector at the Kismayo Branch of Plasma University and the Director of the Climate Solutions Office at Hormuud Group Mr. Hassan Abdulkadir Hassan @Hassanabdulkadr and will be chaired by the Juba Valley Institute’s programs Director Mr. Yahya Abdi Mohamed @Yahya_Gaataa.

The Juba Valley Institute was among stakeholders that today attended Jubaland’s First Annual Environment and Climate Change Conference held in Kismayo. The Institute’s Programs Director @Yahya_Gaataa chaired two of the conference’s plenary discussions on Climate Change Impacts on Food Security and Climate Change Impacts on Water Resource Management.

Under our Women and Youth as Agents of Change program, JVI hosted a consultative dialogue with community members in Aadan Yabaal on educational resources for P/CVE. With misinformation & disinformation on the rise in newly liberated areas, participants agreed that social media education for youth is key to building resilience against extremist narratives. Youth should avoid radical ideologies, share only verified information, and never make ignorance an excuse for their manipulation. Together with @ElmanPeaceHRC we combat violent extremism on different fronts including social media education among vulnerable communities. #ooganabada #peacebuilding, #youtheduation

We have just concluded our town hall meeting between the Jubaland State ministries' directors general and the Dollow District's intellectuals, civil society, and the general public aimed at promoting accountability and devolving services and information to the state's citizens. The event was graced but the Jubaland State Minister for Internal Security General Yussuf Hussein Osman Dhumal and the Dolow District Mayor Mohamed Hussein Abdi Lafey and was attended by 18 directors general from the state’s ministries. Members of the Dolow District public got the opportunity to ask questions and pose advise on the management of government-led projects in the state and the district in particular during this first-of-its-kind event.
