@rubenarslan @SpencrGreenberg @dingding_peng @sewenz What happens if you compare model fit from (a) a linear model to their (b) break point model (c) models with different break points (d) curvilinear models? If there is a breakpoint at 100 000$, that model should show the best fit if I get the problem right.

A better analysis would have been possible with the raw data, but they actually worked with the aggregated data just like me. So that can’t explain the difference. What explains it is that they assumed a threshold would be at 100k (they only allowed the regression line to “break” there), whereas I tried to estimate the breakpoint from the data.

Last year, Killingsworth, Kahneman, and Mellers published a paper reporting that, for a group of unhappy people, money does not improve happiness. @dingding_peng, @sewenz, and I wrote separate critical comments of it, which were published today.
