It is insane and immoral that "I want to be able to walk five blocks to the grocery store without risk of being mowed down by the driver of a 3-ton truck" is considered an "activist" position.

I feel like that could make sense for some specific blocks, but I don’t see how it makes sense broadly for a city like NYC or SF. Trucks are a tiny share of traffic, there’s plenty of sidewalk space. Forcing 95% of traffic into 50% of the streets and making half of the streets truck-only seems undesirable to me at first glance, though I’d look at more details if someone has done this kind of planning
