Now he's attacking Laffer (the curve guy) saying the curve doesn't make sense. At least he quoted a couple politicians saying that. But first he accurately describes the curve. If the income tax rate is 0% revenue is $0. If its 100% its also $0. Nobody is going to work just to give it all to the government. He accurately points out this is a description of property tax. Laffer buys a home in CA and Graetz points out that prop 13 in california, by lowering the effective property tax rate in CA, "should have stimulated growth". He denies that but doesn't articulate. There are hundreds of other taxes. And Laffers point with income tax was that if you can't make Amy money you'll stop working. If property tax is increased to 100%, are people supposed to just abandon their homes? No. Its more likely they'll struggle to pay and then just default at some point, and with taxes like that, nobody would see any point in buying them at auction. The govt couldnt enforce it. But my point is property tax isn't directly correlated to a desire to produce lime income tax is. If anhthing its correlated with where you live. OK so now he's going on about private schools and their tax exemptions. He focuses on racist schools that openly only admitted white students (at least until that was illegal but admits all they had to do was say black students didn't make the cut) The solution he supports (and already exists) it to remove the tax exemption from exclusive schools. Now I hate racism as much as any liberal (maybe, don't quote me on that) but your answer is silly. Instead of realizing that the people you like are victims, you want to rob the people you don't like. And what difference does it make? So a bunch of racists are usi g their own school and not paying taxes. That also means they arent costing anyone else anything to educate, and aren't poisoning your schools with racism. They are also paying property taxes, so they are paying for schools they don't use, subsidizing the public schools against their own (stupid) beliefs. Seems like you already have the upper hand. Show me where on the doll the racist private school hurt your open public school.

You're over thinking it. The idea is they want to steal as much as they can while making themselves out to be the benevolent fixers of society and their victims to be criminals. The world is not fair, but they want the unfairness to favor them. You got an inheritance? Your parents must have been wealthy slave owners. You made money in the stock market? Wage theft! The employees of those companies didn't make any money. You're the enemy simply for having more than them, but the ones leading the socialist movements have more than you and probably don't pay taxes.

This is where the “tax the rich” crowd lose me. Say I earn 90k a year and in 2027 I inherit $200,000 I invest that $200k and after 10 years in the stock market it’s now worth $400k If I sell it and realise the $200k capital gain, what the govt and the “tax the rich” crowd are saying is that I should be taxed as if I make $290k every year. Now if I try and split that CGT income across 2 people I’m “greedy” and avoiding tax But if I sell down in 4x $100k lots over 4 years and minimise my tax, that’s ok and nobody bats an eyelid - but it’s the same principle.
