Some career news: I was among the 11 talented storytellers laid off from Axios yesterday.
I’ll always have immense gratitude for the relationships I’ve made and the events I got to cover over the past four years from the Oscars to the Final Four.
I welcome any help in finding my next role. My DMs are open and my email is maxwellmillington@gmail.com

Insane stat out of today's @axios San Diego newsletter: local parents are shelling out more than 2x the cost of college tuition for child care in the area. axios.com/local/san-dieg…

@janedazey Any chance you were in San Diego because I have this exchange with my almost-3YO every time we leave the house 🙃

@EliseMcCue @grace_panetta This was my exact first thought!

A new program is helping send children of military families to private school so their education + support system isn't disrupted by moves. providencejournal.com/story/news/goo…

Millions of middle-class Americans who have ACA health plans are facing soaring premiums in 2026 — and tough coverage choices after the new rates kick in Jan. 1. And it often falls to women to figure out a family's insurance puzzle.

A lot has changed in 2.5 years.
These days I have a barre membership I use ~3x/week. I run, play guitar, read, watch my favorite TV shows, go to concerts, parent, & work full-time.
It took until my youngest was almost 3, and the balance can be wonky, but I did it. I'm happy.

Embarrassing confession: I do not know what I like to do. I have two kids under 3.5 and much of my free time is spent in service of our household or doing the bare minimum for myself, so I do not have any hobbies. Except, now I need one. Or several.

Parents are turning to golf carts to save money on cars and make getting out of the house easier.
One major problem: kids keep getting hurt.

@dogsloveoats Ok it took several but this was 2.5 years ago and I did it / have hobbies again!

@evalantsoght Guitar! Have taken this back up and it's been such a joy.
English

@Real_Theresa I am currently doing this with guitar for the first time in more than a decade, and my kids LOVE it. we sing teenage dirtbag together. it's a good time.
English

@JaBogen I taught myself to play the ukulele. It’s stupid easy to learn the four chords in Jewel’s “Who Will Save Your Soul:” you can be belting that out and scaring your kids/pets within twenty minutes.
English

@stack_tracy_ Very belated thank-you for all of this. We outsource where we can, but we are a military family, so no parents nearby for support! These days in San Diego.
English

@JaBogen Realized you’re in DC - the Smithsonian also has a bunch of virtual lectures so you can learn a lot of things from textiles to color theory to Greek mythology if you sign up for their classes. Some are one time lectures and some are weekly
English

@petitegeek !!! I play both of these instruments. Pop choir sounds like a mandatory thing for me to look into.
English

@JaBogen I also play guitar and flute! But needed to sign up for a thing to keep accountable for my hobby. Ended up doing a weekly 2-hour pop choir. So much joy and got out of the house one evening per week. My little one is 3.
