If you’re inclined to dig a layer deeper than the surface “next word predictor” descriptions of Generative AI, this is an excellent read for those who want to know more. open.substack.com/pub/understand…

@yankeedraft 7. 1, 3 & 4 will be miserable as Trump spends 10 hours hassling Kamala. 1 & 2 are also toilet-adjacent. 5, 6, 8, 9 & 10 are middle seats, next to celebs who will keep to themselves with no meaningful conversations. Plus, I’m an aisle guy.

Please @whignewtons and @DavidAFrench - please recommend 2 books (each) as choices for a book club about the US founding / founders & legal system, as a set to choose from for the USA 250th.

@the_culturist_ I would have preferred a neoclassical version as a better compliment to the Lincoln memorial

@the_culturist_ It’s not the USA. Our major sites memorialize things that history has decided were positive people, or meaningful moments. This is nothing but jealousy of Paris. Stop it.

@nikunj Similar thing can be said about calendaring / scheduling - something that sounds simple until you start to see how deeply complex it is.

Every time I see a tweet saying “I can vibe code this in a weekend” - I think of the slack notification system.. It takes time, persistence and effort to get the details right. Sure, a lot of simple workflows will get vibe coded away. And maybe you can put this in Claude Code and get the code right in one shot. But quality, depth and great systems will still have value and take time. You can’t vibe code lessons. Now and forever.

When doing AI-assisted coding, it's tempting to ask the AI to do more within a single prompt thread, since it has context. But soon, all that context starts to interfere with good AI thinking. Still trying to find the right amount of stuff to have in a single thread.

@WizLikeWizard Best post I’ve seen in a while. I regularly say this to startups I advise. Too-few listen, I’m afraid.

The worst Use of Funds slides I see: “We’re raising $4M at $20M post.” Then a pie chart splitting it across engineering, GTM, and ops. Nobody cares about your cost centers. The best version answers one question:

@Tiana_Celine_23 As much as Rita is amazing, and kudos to anyone willing to dance next to him, watch this again and defocus your eyes a bit; take in the two. Astaire is just more fluid, expansive & expressive. #legend

I gave Claude one Polymarket equation and told it to find every mispriced contract It hasn't stopped running in 4 months $600 → $14,190 Every Polymarket contract is priced by one formula: C(q) = b × ln(Σ e^(qi / b)) The pricing function inside it is softmax - the same math Claude uses to pick its next token Claude doesn't just understand this equation, it thinks in it So I gave it a task: "Scan every open contract, compute fair value, flag anything the market has wrong 24/7" It finds the gap, sizes the position by Kelly, enters before the crowd corrects Market shows 0.38, math shows 0.57, bot buys Resolution hits, bot collects 120 days 61.2% win rate 2.31 sharpe -3.8% max drawdown 425 trades 87% of Polymarket wallets are underwater They trade feelings against a formula that doesn't bluff, doesn't tilt, doesn't chase losses The edge is having something that reads the math faster than any human - and never stops looking

I read a lot of advance review copies of books. Publishers should be judged by editorial quality. Famous authors rarely get pushback from developmental editors (but should), and many books lack strong line and copy editing. Sloppy proofreading in ARCs is the clearest quality tell

Unless I’m missing something, #Safari on #apple #iOS 26.3.1 is leading to unaware tab proliferation leading to slowdowns. Closing a tab now takes 3 taps, and is buried/non-obvious. Friends cite phone slowdown; checking tabs shows many 10s open, likely using resources.

Man I know it's partly me, but AI-generated code definitely isn't pretty or DRY unless you keep reviewing / bashing.

Western people these days are animated more by feelings than by values. But societies can’t run on feelings; values matter more. The west needs to go back to living like it. open.substack.com/pub/bariweiss/…
