I agree with this.
It’s easy to look at the decision to move the HURD through a basketball-only lens, but the reality is every decision in basketball impacts every other sport on campus.
These have to be viewed as macro-level decisions about sustaining success across the entire department.
The ugliest version of the question when it comes to moving the HURD is this:
Would you cut NIL/funding to women’s basketball or other sports to keep the HURD in the same place?
And that’s just one of dozens of tradeoffs that sit on the edges of a decision like this—most of which aren’t immediately visible.
Revenue has to be captured wherever it can, and the reality at USU is that it’s going to come from changes in basketball or football. There isn’t another place for it to come from.

@jwalker_sports I hope this doesn’t make are students section look like those idiots down south.

We'll be using the results of this poll on our show today (tomorrow probably as well since it runs through tomorrow afternoon). Provide some feedback on Utah State's decision to move the HURD
Jason Walker@jwalker_sports
Haven't seen a poll on this yet, but need to get one out there. Thoughts on USU moving the HURD fully behind the basket?
English

@jwalker_sports I wish with moving off the Hurd that they some how could have made it so part of the Hurd was behind the opposing teams bench, as then the Hurd could get in player heads. Also how will the Hurd get in the opposing players, head like we had on him he inbound on the south side line

The Hurd will still be great, but it won't be the same.
Everywhere has baseline student seating. That sideline section the Hurd had got in players' heads and was one of the best, most underrated (not under appreciated by me) weapons out west.
Money wins out on this one.

im a little concerned that people don't quite understand what makes the hurd special
what makes the spectrum "different, better, or special" (shoutout eric schulz) is that there's like 50 students 3 feet from the court. you don't get THAT anywhere else, you shouldn't change THAT

@USUtheRightBlue Yes, it goes past my house for any game that they have to jump on to I-80 at Little America. We also have a ranch between Garden City and Laketown that they go past also.
English

@JackDunbar10 I believe so. Didn't you catch the USU football truck out there? Or maybe I did. I don't remember.
English

@ScottyGZone Did the students section end up getting more seats this way or did it transfer over to be just the same?
English

Aggie student section stays as one collective group. Shifts completely to behind the basket.

@DavidDJJames We are very disgruntled because 22 is too high for this year. If you’re going to tank, as in not win, you need to be a tank factor, not just try to build one tank.
English

@USUtheRightBlue The odds are likely that somewhere along your route you went right past my house. I am literally right on the Utah-Wyoming border (like I can look out the window and see the welcome to Wyoming and Utah signs).
English

@JackDunbar10 One time I thought we drove near where you were for a trip to Jackson Wyoming I thought. This was years ago though.
English

@USUtheRightBlue Yes my stake has two ward buildings in Utah and 10 in Wyoming the stake boundary start just out side Jackson and include pinedale all the way down to woodruff. It takes around three hours to go from one end to the other of the stake
English

@JackDunbar10 True! I have heard of Kemmerer. Wait aren’t you still on the Utah side though? I am in Eagle Mountain.
English

@libertyF7R8 @Sofia50020Sofia Also, it makes for a better horse cause they really become a true rope horse that they rope them that way
English

@libertyF7R8 @Sofia50020Sofia We brand about 5,000 calves that way every year on our places here in the Three Corners area of Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah. I would say about 80% of the ranches around here do it that way. If done correctly, it's the fastest way due to multiple calves getting branded at once.
