@BenKaspick @PavlovicNBCS How have we gotten to a point that we are actually questioning the opinion Buster Posey has about a catcher? There’s plenty to second guess him on, I’m not going to question a catcher eval. There’s nothing we know that he doesn’t about playing catcher in the big leagues

@BenKaspick @PavlovicNBCS So we disagree about the accuracy of these metrics, that’s fine. Even if he’s as valuable as you say he is, are you then saying that Buster Posey understood that less than you? That Buster Posey isn’t evaluating the literal catcher position better than fans on BR?

@PavlovicNBCS @BenKaspick And at the end of the day, if there’s one position we should trust Posey to evaluate, Im really comfortable with his ability to assess catchers. I don’t think he’s missing anything we’re finding.

@PavlovicNBCS @BenKaspick I think he’s the best receiver in MLB. No doubt. I think other aspects of his defensive game are overrated, not bad, but not best overall defender in baseball. Would be a non-issue if he could hit .210, 15 homers and post a .625 OPS. He’s been miles below that for ~800 ABs.

Patrick Bailey had hopes of signing a long term extension much like I have hopes of playing QB for the Niners. The way some people talk about Bailey, a great defensive catcher and a literal 0 at the plate, a pitcher at the plate, is baffling.

I think it’s disingenuous to argue that Posey didn’t see or was unaware of his value. He’s a great catcher, I believe his entire defensive arsenal was a bit overrated… His bat
