@Claire_Laurent @JJackson_RN As video implies, the cognitive and organizational/managerial work of nurses often goes unnoticed, can be invisible, is undervalued. One of reasons CEOs&CFOs believe RNs can be replaced by less trained staff

@germanrlopez This is like an article on reducing auto deaths but waiting until paras 14/15 to talk about seatbelt mandates or antidrinking initiatives, or dismissing them because they are only 80 or 90% effective. The risks presented are wrong because potential of wide vaccination undervalued.

3) mid-level staffing with pools of nurses to draw upon if census or absences require more staffing still result in excess deaths because of the stickiness of the decision to bring in another needed nurse. It's a well done study that should be widely distributed & impact policy

2) costs of higher staffing are offset about 50% by costs associated with reduced lengths of stay as nurses can get their work done on time and staffing reduces complications...

Flexible nurse staffing with low baseline staff does not provide a safe or cost-effective approach to staffing hospital wards. With unlimited temporary staff, outcomes are still worse and the cost per life saved of higher base staffing is low ow.ly/hw7r30ry63N

2/ Any board or task force trying to analyze and improve care that does not include the expertise of nurses is frankly incompetent to do its work. tinyurl.com/yynvxkqj

Recent op-ed in LATimes on need for nurses on Biden covid taskforce, coupled with petition drive, contributed to nurse and occ health specialist being added. My letter in support of the op-ed tinyurl.com/yynvxkqj Key sentence at end: 1/

@DrSimpsonHSR @msalganik @AcademyHealth Low explained variance. Often the case for predictions of individual behavior, given how many things that influence it can't be measured. R-square of 0.2 might be adequate for general policy, not for individual action, and not for policies that contract rather than expand options

@AcademyHealth Tom Rice did a fantastic job highlighting Uwe Reinhardt's contribution to making economics useful to the discussion of appropriate health policy by recasting the discussion of efficiency and equity to capture the common sense meaning and relevance of the terms. #ARM20

@kdrum Took a quick look at the study. Analysis of different policies did not seem to take concurrence into account. My experience is estimates of individual variables when they are correlated with others in the model are often imprecise, so the schools estimate is suspect.

3/Professional nursing should track down that quote, put it on a loop, and use it to help the public and other health professionals appreciate the cognitive and skill-based work nurses do. #nursing

2/The public and health professionals often understand the physical and emotional demands of nursing, but not the cognitive or managerial demands or expectations. It was refreshing to hear Johnson highlight the skill and expertise of the nursing staff. #nursing

1/When discharged, Boris Johnson praised the NHS and its providers in general, but he also did a shout out to two of his ICU nurses. What struck me about the shout out was he praised the knowledge and skill of the nurses, not just their caring.#nursing @ILCconnect2care @JaneEBall

@JaneEBall @HRA_Latest Given the unique knowledge of nurses about how care is actually delivered, any organization making operational, regulatory, payment or policy decisions affecting how health care is organized, delivered or paid that does not have nursing expertise is incompetent to do its work.
