La Niña finally decided to wake up and along with Eq RWs, is trying to throw the brakes on the MJO in the warm phases. Normally, the MJO slows down in the maritime continent & west pacific as zonal MSE advection becomes weak. Doesn’t help we haven’t see a good E Asia cold outbreak in a while. I also don’t like how we’re getting all this -EAMT in week 2 (still), but the pacific jet extends. Usually means there’s a poleward shift in the works (which is needed to offset the angular momentum losses upstream to maintain said stronger jet). Said poleward shift is less conducive to -EPO.

After two days of seller drop off for our Bike Swap (5/18), it's apparent that the used market is absolutely flooded with bikes, and the sellers know it! We are seeing really nice bikes at prices lower than we've ever seen. If you're a buyer this is great news!

It's as good as it gets for viewing aurora. 3 hour estimated planetary K index is 8.67 which is the highest I've seen. Usually I get excited about a value of 6. Clouds should be thinning out tonight. Best viewing should be after midnight.

@NWSGray Broken stratocu overhead north of Waterville, hoping it thins out up in Moosehead! This is probably remnants of diurnal convection and should fade?

For those hoping to see the aurora tonight here is our latest hourly sky cover forecast. It will otherwise be a cool night with lows into the 30s to lower 40s. Frost is possible in the more sheltered interior locations. #MEwx #NHwx

The first #solarstorm in this train has hit! The storm is quite fast so the initial impact has caused a G4-level response momentarily. (See the red bar showing Hp30 exceeding 8). The magnetic field is strong and southward, but wildly fluctuating. Expect substorms to cause #aurora to brighten and dim suddenly.
