La Niña finally decided to wake up and along with Eq RWs, is trying to throw the brakes on the MJO in the warm phases. Normally, the MJO slows down in the maritime continent & west pacific as zonal MSE advection becomes weak. Doesn’t help we haven’t see a good E Asia cold outbreak in a while.
I also don’t like how we’re getting all this -EAMT in week 2 (still), but the pacific jet extends. Usually means there’s a poleward shift in the works (which is needed to offset the angular momentum losses upstream to maintain said stronger jet). Said poleward shift is less conducive to -EPO.

The first #solarstorm in this train has hit! The storm is quite fast so the initial impact has caused a G4-level response momentarily. (See the red bar showing Hp30 exceeding 8). The magnetic field is strong and southward, but wildly fluctuating. Expect substorms to cause #aurora to brighten and dim suddenly.
