🎙️ What went wrong tonight? 🗣️ Mikel Arteta: “The result. Especially the way we conceded the two goals. We had so much dominance, we had two massive chances before Southampton scored. You have to capitalise on that. That’s our responsibility.” ❌😫

🚨🎙️ | Thierry Henry on Arsenal F.C.: 🗣️ “It’s disappointing. A few weeks ago people were talking about the quadruple… now it’s down to just the Premier League and the Champions League. 🗣️ The level Arsenal showed at Southampton was nowhere near what you expect from a team being called the best in the world. 🗣️ But I’ve said it before — Arsenal only need one trophy, and that’s the Premier League. 🗣️ If they miss out on that… then it’s another trophyless season.” 👀🔥

Now I've slept on it, some thoughts on last night's game; I never thought Southampton away was an easy tie, like everyone else seemed to think... they're pushing for promotion to the Premier League, they're unbeaten in 14, had nothing to lose and were always going to cause problems! The annoyance was from our own sloppiness, all over the pitch. I've lost count of the times we've given the ball away at the back recently, knocking it about between defenders when we could have played forward.. it's literally asking for trouble! When we were winning games regularly, I had no issue with it, but now we're not winning games and the defence looks dodgy, get the bloody ball forward, away from our goal... it's not rocket science! The attack.... it's toothless at the moment. 23 goal attempts last night, only the one goal scored! So many shots sailed way over the bar... I expect International's playing for Arsenal to at least work the goalkeeper! Most shots that were on target were straight at the keeper.. By contrast, Southampton had about 6 attempts, 3 were on target, one hit the woodwork and 2 were goals.. The midfield... I don't know if it was the system, or the continued swapping of positions... but whatever it was, it wasn't working and at times it was like we had no midfield at all! In contrast, Southampton defended as a team, and attacked as a team... yes Arsenal were missing lots of players, but there was no chemistry whatsoever on the pitch, apart from one flash between Havertz & Gyokeres for our goal. Last night I went in on Ben White a bit, which is unlike me... in truth everyone was bad, apart from Dowman... but Ben has frustrated me for quite a while, he gets skinned too easily, makes stupid fouls... and yesterday had numerous chances to cross but hesitated too long and was blocked every time. Not to mention the huge error for their goal... I like Ben White, but if we're being honest, he's not the same player since the injuries and losing his starting spot to Timber.. Odegaard was decent, trying to make things happen all first half, he's just back from yet another injury from an injury plagued season and made a few mistakes too, but it's his job to take some risks as the chief creator in the team, and losing the odd ball in the attacking third should not lead to an easy chance to the opposing team... that's an issue with the defensive work of the whole team.. Havertz doesn't work in midfield. I think we've all known this for some time. Despite the squad depth, we're really missing Merino... a lot of Arsenal fans have been sleeping on his influence in the team, he offers so much stability, and is a threat in both boxes... he's been a big loss as a midfield option.. There's big potential in a Havertz and Gyokeres partnership up front, but I doubt we'll see it much as Havertz would need to play in the 10 just behind Gyokeres (his best position) and that would likely mean no Odegaard or Eze, unless there's a change of system, which isn't going to happen.. Max Dowman... protect him at all costs! He has the exuberance of youth, he was the only one who picked the ball up and attacked Southampton time after time... they had to result in hacking him down to stop him, Southampton had 3 bookings... all on players for bringing Dowman down! Incredible bravery to attack seasoned pros constantly from a 16 year old kid... hope that is never coached out of him! I don't blame Arteta for starting Kepa... yes, he's been pretty poor in the Cup defeats, but he's far from the only one, and it's obvious Kepa was going to be our domestic Cup goalie this season from the very start... to keep Raya fresh for our biggest targets, the Premier League Title and the Champions League. Having said all this, it CAN still be a fantastic season.. the domestic cups are secondary to the big 2 competitions... Arsenal being Champions is all that matters, and I'll be celebrating hard if we secure it! #SOUARS

@ArsenalNews_Hub Did Southampton dominate? Yes, we should have won but seems our second string unfortunately is not up to it. But COYG.💪⚽

🚨🎙️ | Ian Wright on Arsenal F.C.: 🗣️ “If Southampton can dominate you, and players look exhausted — like they don’t even realise they’re playing a quarter-final — then what standards are we talking about? 🗣️ This is April. Seven games left in the Premier League… and you can’t win a quarter-final at Southampton? 🗣️ These are the moments that show how ready you are to go and win the league — and right now, I’m disappointed.” 😤🔥

That’s me done here at St Mary’s after Southampton beat Arsenal. You simply have to hold your hands up and say congratulations to the Championship side who deserved their FA Cup victory. But that’s another frustrating cup exit for Mikel Arteta’s side who need to put this result behind them immediately and regain their focus and form. Safe trip back to all Gooners on a cold & windy night here on the south coast. See you in Lisbon

Losing is hard Gooners but sometimes it is right and this is definitely right for us and Arteta knows it. For me he played the right risk. It’s all about Lisbon and Bournemouth now.

Fuck the FA Cup, Arteta is 100% right to play this team and risk it. We have much bigger games coming up and this lot should be able to beat Southampton. #Arsenal

I'm sorry... see the difference in finishing from Southampton's Championship players and Arsenal's Internationals... absolutely shocking! Couldn't hit a barn door between them until Gyokeres showed how it was done! You have 23 attempts, you need to finish at least 3 of them!
