The *new* lift in my Moscow apartment has never properly worked since it was installed last year Internet barely working. Hot and cold water got switched off today, too. Is Moscow really the greatest city on earth?

Never really liked the Moscow metro but loving the music recently. This week I’ve heard folk music, Soviet classics and even Yellow Submarine

I also think it’s an issue of quality? I know Indian restaurants unable/find it much harder and expensive to get ingredients to Moscow restaurants Yes, times are tough, but the main reason I and friends avoid eating out in Moscow is bad quality food, not price

@TurkishAirlines London Heathrow to Istanbul (TK1972) I was given ice cold food from the fridge- beef with rice. Then sachets of butter which were all melted into liquid and went all over my expensive electronics and clothing. Really poor service and disappointing evening

Mobile internet still down in central Moscow. Pedestrians, couriers and taxi drivers look lost. People connecting to wifi outside cafés/banks. Vedomosti says sales of pagers, paper maps and landline phones through roof. And now even wifi in the Duma (parliament) reportedly out!

@jonnytickle In my experience Russians are quite sincere, even naively so, similar to Americans. Russians lack the ability of self-deprecation like the British. They can do it, mock themselves, but their limit is reached much quicker than the British before they feel personally attacked

I always jokingly tell Russians that they’re the same as Americans. Arrogant, self-centred, so big that nobody learns another language (and many people never travel abroad), and all that with a fragile ego that goes straight into defensive mode when a foreigner criticises them
