Banks County High School senior Chance Carver won a $1,000 scholarship in the State EMC/FFA Agricultural Education Career Development Event (CDE), a wiring competition that tests students in three knowledge skills using the National Electric Code. Georgia’s EMCs, including Jackson EMC, sponsors the competition. Carver competed against 10 students in the statewide competition with a timed practical wiring exercise, a problem-solving written exam and an oral presentation describing the necessary steps to complete an electrical wiring task. The state wiring contest is the only CDE that requires three skills that are directly applied to a career. Other FFA events have only one skill requirement. During the Gwinnett Science & Engineering Fair, more than 2,000 students and teachers connected with Jackson EMC employees Craig Roberts, Stephen Whitson, Thomas Brunner and Karen Ewing, who served as judges and speakers. Craig and Stephen also led a breakout session on “Designing and Building Power Lines,” while the bucket truck photo booth was a big hit with students and teachers alike. ⚡ #JacksonEMC

Jackson EMC recently selected four high school students as delegates for the 2026 Washington Youth Tour, taking place June 12-19. 🍑 Jabe Andrews, a junior at Banks County High School; Emma Calin, a junior at North Gwinnett High School; Sterling Clendenning, a junior at East Hall High School; and Katelyn Rhea, a junior at Jefferson High School, were chosen for the all-expense paid leadership development experience sponsored by Georgia’s electric cooperatives and organized by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).
