@JoshuaSwin32372 @BasicBaptistGuy Dude, I don't know how to make it any clearer. I'm tired of this conversation and your failed attempts to trap me in something. God is the standard. Revelation from Him through the Holy Spirit is how we know what is true, just like Peter. Matthew 16:15-17. I wish you well.

@JoshuaSwin32372 @BasicBaptistGuy All of that should be taken into account. Our minds can't help but do that. But ultimately it is the Spirit that convicts. We don't always have all of the facts, and sometimes the facts we think we do have end up being wrong.

@JackwagonJones @BasicBaptistGuy So you're saying that evidence plays no role because ultimately it is subjective? If a text fails basic tests on facts, logic, and claims, why should anyone trust its theological propositions?

@JoshuaSwin32372 @BasicBaptistGuy No, I understood, but you are wrong out of the gate. Even verisimilitude cannot validate theological claims. That must be done through the Holy Spirit. You can choose to believe something because of those things, but that's purely a choice. It's not proof.

@JoshuaSwin32372 @BasicBaptistGuy I don't think you know how facts, logic, and evidence work. No historical, linguistic, or archeological evidence can prove that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Savior of the world. You can only know that by confirmation of the Holy Spirit. Just like Peter. There's no other way

There are methods of validating theological claims through verisimilitude. If the historical, linguistic, and archaeological claims of a text are accurate, there is a greater probability that its theological claims are valid. If a text's theology and logic are consistent with the rest of the canon, there is a much higher probability that it's true or valid.

@JoshuaSwin32372 @BasicBaptistGuy The validation of theological truth is always subjective. You cannot objectively prove theological claims. It can't be tested by the scientific method. Our scriptural canon is set by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Our scriptural canon is available online.

@JackwagonJones @BasicBaptistGuy So the validation of truth is completely subjective ergo there is no consistent standard for determining scriptural canon in Mormonism, correct?

Mormons sin regularly and break their covenants daily. Yet, they get mad at Christians that sin but are forgiven.

@JoshuaSwin32372 @BasicBaptistGuy God is the standard. He reveals His will to his servants, the prophets. Today's prophet has authority to speak for God today. That has always been the standard. Abraham had authority in his day. Moses in his. Isaiah in his. Peter in his. And so on. That is God's pattern.

@JoshuaSwin32372 @BasicBaptistGuy Not true. At the very least, our canon contains the 4 standard works, from which we get the plan of salvation. It's true that we do not have a closed canon. The canon was never meant to be closed. The heavens are open, and God speaks to man today. We are not limited to the Bible.

@JackwagonJones @BasicBaptistGuy There are no standards which define the accepted canon within Mormonism. It's one of the built in fail-safes in the theology to avoid scrutiny.

Ex-Mo’s and Anti-Mormons: “‘The Mormon Church controls you!” Bro, I *choose* to set an alarm for early Sunday worship, gladly pay my tithing, live the Word of Wisdom because it blesses my life tremendously, and go to the temple at least once a month to serve others. I keep doing it because I actually like who those habits are turning me into!

@Samuraijrussell If I couldn't accept that, I would be a lonely person. Everyone has a differing perspective. I have unique view of things, as do you. I'm simply not interested in hearing you drag something I cherish through the mud.

Imagine giving countless hours of your life to a church, donating 10% of your income year after year, only to be told you should never talk about it again. That’s what Mormons expect—they want Exmormons to stay silent once they leave.
