🚨 2021 MURDER OF CASH GERNON.... In May 2021, four-year-old Cash Gernon and his twin brother were staying with their father's girlfriend, Monica Sherrod, in a southwest Dallas home on Florina Parkway. Their mother was absent, and their father had left them in her care. Around 5:00 a.m. on May 15, nanny cam footage captured 18-year-old neighbor Darriynn Brown entering the bedroom. He stood over the sleeping boys and lifted Cash from the bed beside his twin, carrying the child away. No one in the house immediately noticed. Nearly two hours later, a jogger found Cash's barefoot, bloodied body lying in the street on Saddleridge Drive, about eight blocks away. He had been stabbed multiple times and left in a puddle of blood. The Dallas County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. Police reviewed the chilling surveillance video. Sherrod identified Brown as the intruder. Investigators searched Brown's home and found his clothing and sunglasses with Cash's blood. DNA evidence further linked him to the crime. Brown was arrested the same day. Brown faced charges of capital murder, kidnapping, and burglary. He had prior incidents, including an alleged attempted kidnapping of a toddler months earlier. His trial was delayed after he was found incompetent due to mental health issues, including reported schizophrenia, but he was later deemed competent. On October 6, 2025, moments before his capital murder trial began, 22-year-old Brown pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 30 years. The motive for the senseless killing remains unclear. The case left a community heartbroken over the innocent child's brutal death captured on camera.
