@BenGrahamUK Unreliable renewables? Literally all that needs to happen for solar to work is for the sun to come up. Easy on a plant orbiting the sun. For wind turbines to turn, it simply needs to be a little bit windy. Simple for an Atlantic-facing island nation.

What matters here is what SMRs actually do in practice.
Each unit can power hundreds of thousands of homes with consistent, low carbon electricity, unlike unreliable renewables, they’re not weather dependent.
That means a more stable grid, less reliance on imports, and fewer price shocks for households.

Rolls-Royce securing the UK’s Small Modular Reactor contract is one of the few genuinely strategic moves this country has made in years. We’re talking about homegrown nuclear capability, thousands of skilled jobs, and long term energy security, not just another short term fix. SMRs can be built faster and cheaper than traditional plants and crucially they’re scalable. The UK is finally backing its own industry instead of outsourcing everything abroad. Personally would like us to go much heavier on nuclear power but this is an important move, which will create around 8'000 jobs.

This is the Scream 7 situation all over again. Attacking people for being excited about something they’re passionate about does nothing but turn people against your cause. You can agree or disagree with J. K. Rowling’s views, that’s your right but she’s going to be rich and famous regardless if the HBO show fails or not (it won’t). These kids, as well as all the hard working people behind the scenes deserve the success and so much more. They are literally dedicating their lives to creating something special and who are we to rob them of their moment? The Harry Potter HBO show boycott has already failed and these so-called “activists” have no idea what they’re doing. I seriously cannot wait for this show to be a runaway success.
