There’s multiple Reddit threads on this. They were looking for a way out, and the lawsuit gave them the opportunity.

They literally couldn't do anything. There's no delusion about it genius. They had plans for a New York map, Uber Jason. There were rumors of a map on spaceship.

They were legally barred in the same sense that you’re legally barred from unlocking your own car door. Aka they weren’t. It was an excuse.
