There is a hotel in the southern United States that employs a man whose official job title is Duckmaster. The position exists nowhere else in the world. Twice a day he puts on a red and gold uniform, takes the elevator up to the rooftop, and walks five ducks down to the lobby. They march across a red carpet to a marble fountain in front of the guests, then swim there until evening. The tradition started in 1933 when the hotel’s manager came back from a duck hunting trip with too much whiskey in him and dumped his live decoys in the lobby fountain as a prank. Guests loved it. A few years later, a former circus animal trainer working as a bellman at the hotel volunteered to look after the ducks and taught them to march. The hotel gave him the title of Duckmaster. He kept the job for 50 years. The ducks now live on the rooftop in a marble palace that cost the hotel $200,000 to build, with their own miniature replica of the hotel inside. The hotel’s French restaurant has refused to serve duck on the menu since 1981.

So, here we are... Chemo, round 6, the supposed last round, athough the nurse has other ideas about that and is going to confirm with the oncologist before booking another date. Hard to believe it's been almost exactly 6 months to the date since I was diagnosed and 8 months since I've been on sick leave. What a journey it's been. I'm feeling good now again and back to my usual self, but round 5 hit me like a train. Totally unexpected, having sailed through the first 4, and lucky enough to escape the nausea, etc., again, but, my God, the fatigue was unbelievable. I literally slept almost 24hrs a day, only getting up to eat and use the bathroom, for about a week after the steroids wore off. Every time I tried to open my eyes it felt like they were full of sand and my eyelids made of concrete, so I just closed them, rolled over and slept again. At least I slept through the dark days, though, so that's a bonus. My eyebrows have decided to take a slow exit, with the remaining hairs clinging on for dear life, so I'll have to look like an alien for a while, but, honestly, it doesn't bother me in the least. My nails are slightly affected and seem to have taken on a life of their own and grow in whatever weird shape they want, and the neuropathy is slightly worse, but still only when I'm cold or tired. Just as I started to feel like myself again after the fatigue I got cellulitis from the monthly hormone injection (I won't disgust anyone with pics) and that knocked me back another week, so, easy to say, I'm happy to have all that behind me. I've been prescribed a new injection now because of that, which is only once every 3 months, so that makes things easier in every way. On a lighter note, my blood results have improved again with my PSA levels at 0.179 (anything below 0.1) is negligible and generally considered undetectable) and my ALP level (how they measure bone tumour activity/turnover) is down from 333 in Jan to 125 now, which is considered near normal. Honestly couldn't be happier with the results so far and I'm looking forward to the scans afterwards, even if I do need another infusion or 2 beforehand. As always, I'll keep you all posted. Apologies, btw, that I couldn't thank everyone invidually for all the messages of support after the last round, but my energy just wasn't there for it. #KickingCancersAss #StraightOuttaChemo

Holly Cairns latest bill is yet another desperate attack on Ireland and everything we stand for as a nation. Since we legalised abortion we've had 52,000 of them here. Thats the population of a medium sized town completely erased from our future. Our birth rate is already in freefall and she wants to make it even easier for more lives to be ended. This is the same woman who tweeted she would have an abortion every time the Pope opened his mouth. Her general hatred of Irish culture is glaringly obvious in every move she makes. But what really exposes her is just how desperately bad a politician she is. Zero leadership skills, zero understanding of ordinary Irish people, and now this incompetent bill that proves she is completely out of her depth and a total disaster for the country.
