Ghana really is pulling a fast one aren’t they? First they got paid for all the slaves they sold (until Britain stopped them) and now they want to get paid compensation for the existence of slavery by the people who stopped them doing it. Anybody in Parliament who even hints at “reparations” is in my mind a straight up traitor. I, a taxpayer, don’t owe foreign scammers a penny.

It's been a long, lonely country lane but we finally have a National Trust director who accepts that my ethnicity means I'm too thick to know what to do, wear or how to behave in the countryside. How very condescending, I mean understanding, of her. Bravo! apple.news/AtTXYiBzJRlORc…

I still can’t believe Parliament has legalised abortion up to the moment of birth. We live in a country where it is illegal to hunt a fox - or indeed to sell a drinking straw made of plastic - but lawful to kill a human baby. We have lost our way.
Dominic Penna@DominicPenna

Nine Labour MPs are among 79 who have written to Shabana Mahmood and Wes Streeting to protest the decriminalisation of abortion up to the point of birth The cross-party letter argues proceeding without an impact assessment would be “reckless”

#OnThisDay 1807 the Abolition of Slave Trade act gains Royal assent making trade of African slaves illegal in the Empire. In the decades that followed the Royal Navy captured over 1600 ships, freeing over 150,000 slaves. The cost was 2% of Government spending or half of RN budget

Philip Rycroft, arch Whitehall insider who said Brexit has "slowed our progress as a nation, if not put it into reverse", called it a "wrong turn", and said the "Brexit insurgency rode a wave of divisive identity politics", wrote a report for Starmer which blocks Reform from receiving money from its biggest financial backer. Dominic Cummings warned Reform would face lawfare from the British state. Cutting off Reform's major donor base is exactly that. Rycroft is not an impartial civil servant - he constantly retweets pro-EU accounts (e.g. one talking about "Brexit cultists"), heavily criticised David Frost/Cummings' Civil Service reforms, and implied support of Labour's radical constitutional reforms.

Surrendering the Chagos is Ecocide on a massive scale. The British Indian Overseas Territory is one the only places in the Indian Ocean not decimated by Chinese and Asian industrial overfishing. If the deal goes through, the Chagos archipelago will be ransacked by trawlers. Unusually, there is almost complete radio silence from British conservation organisations. It’s inexplicable. ecos.org.uk/the-chagos-con…
