It was never a literal Son but a title for the Pure believers, hence why early Christians referred to Christ as Rabbi or Teacher.

Even in the Bible, there are verses that say Jesus (a.s.) was not God, but a servant of God. He was Muslim, and worshipped the only God, Allah (c.c).
