Another one through the door! And it’s a goodun in Jon Russell.
An athletic, energetic, strong CM who impressed massively on loan at #Stags.
Spoke recently about the camaraderie and bond within in the group last season.
Now he’s here to stay! 🟡🔵

An Independent Disciplinary Commission has today expelled Southampton from the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs after the Club admitted to multiple breaches of EFL Regulations related to the unauthorised filming of other Clubs’ training.
In addition, the Club has received a four-point deduction that will be applied to the 2026/27 Championship table.
The effect of today’s order is that Middlesbrough are reinstated into the 2026 Play-Offs and will proceed to the Play-Off Final against Hull City. The final remains scheduled for Saturday 23 May, with the kick-off time to be confirmed.

Final stats of Mansfield Town's season
Mansfield finish in 10th place in League One, with 65 points. Mansfield won 16 games and lost 13 games.
It is the highest placed finish since also finishing 10th in 1986/87 (39 years ago, the season the club won the Freight Rover Trophy). More points gained here than in 1986/87 though.
The last time the club finished in a higher position was 1977/78 (48 years ago), finishing 21st in the second tier (the club’s only season in the old Division Two).
It’s a superb achievement by Nigel Clough, his management staff, the players, and of course thanks to owners John and Carolyn Radford. When you add in the two cup runs, it’s been an enjoyable and really good season.
The Stags ended the season with the equal third best defence in League One. Only Lincoln and Stevenage conceded fewer, while Cardiff conceded the same.
No side did the double over Mansfield this season, and Mansfield were one of only three sides in League One to be "undoubled", along with Bolton and Lincoln.
Meanwhile, Mansfield did not do the double over anyone else either.
It is not the first time Mansfield have been “undoubled”. But it is the first time Mansfield have been “undoubled” and have not done the double over anyone else as well (stat from Paul Taylor).
It was a better second half of the season than first.
On 20th December, Mansfield dropped into the relegation zone for the only time this season after a home defeat to Stockport. Mansfield had 23 points from 20 games.
After that, Mansfield moved up the table, taking 42 points from 26 games, winning 10 games and losing only 4 games.
Goals (league and cup): Oates 11, Akins 10, Evans 10, Reed 5, Russell 5 (+4 for Barnsley), Hendry 4, Irow 4, T.Roberts 4, McLaughlin 3, Dwyer 2, Maris 2, McDonnell 2, Sweeney 2, Abbott 1, Adeboyejo 1, Blake-Tracy 1, Bolton 1, Bowery 1, Cargill 1, Dickov 1, Flanagan 1, Gardner 1, A.Lewis 1, McAdam 1, Moriah-Welsh 1.
(24 different scorers). Oshilaja, Hewitt and Knoyle didn’t score.
3 OG (footnote 1 OG incorrectly credited to Evans on some media outlets).
Including penalties (league and cup, but not including shootouts): Scored: Akins 2, Reed 1, T.Roberts 1. Missed: Evans 1.
Assists (league and cup): Oates 8, Moriah-Welsh 7, Evans 5, Reed 5, McLaughlin 4, A.Lewis 3, Blake-Tracy 3, Hendry 3, T.Roberts 3, Sweeney 3, Akins 2, Bowery 2, Dwyer 2, Hewitt 2, Knoyle 2, Maris 2, Russell 2, Abbott 1, Adeboyejo 1, Dickov 1, Gardner 1, Oshilaja 1, L.Roberts 1.
(notes on assists: in the case of a penalty, the player who earns the penalty gets an assist. In the case of a solo goal, nobody gets an assist. In the case of the scorer scoring from the rebound after a shot is saved or blocked, the player who had the shot saved gets an assist. In the case of a goal from a deflected cross, the player with the cross gets an assist. In the case of an own goal, the player who caused the own goal gets an assist. In the case of a cross that is headed away before the goal is scored, nobody gets an assist.)
Penalties conceded:
Bowery (Exeter A, poor decision), Blake-Tracy (Wycombe A, foul), Taylor Anderson (Harrogate EFL Trophy), Evans (Port Vale A, soft but daft), Blake-Tracy (Rotherham H, poor decision), Knoyle (Luton A, soft, saved), Oshilaja (Northampton A, naive, dangled his leg), Evans (Lincoln H, clumsy), Oshilaja (AFC Wimbledon H, mistake by Oshilaja), Blake-Tracy (Wigan A, foul from behind). Clough, March 2nd: “The penalties at Exeter, Port Vale and Northampton weren’t penalties, we have had confirmation of that.”
Average home league attendance: 8,033 (average away fans: 867, average home fans 7,166) (the home attendance is calculated as tickets sold, including season tickets. There are 6,166 season ticket holders this season).
8,033 is the highest average league attendance since 1977/78 (the club’s only season in the second tier), but of course attendances now include all tickets sold including season tickets, whereas previously they were numbers through the turnstiles, making comparisons problematic.
Highest attendance: 9,401 vs Cardiff. Lowest attendance: 7,167 vs Peterborough.
The attendance on the final day of the season at home to Cardiff was a full house of 9,401, the highest attendance since the redevelopment of the ground, beating 9,260 against Arsenal in the FA Cup this season, and 9,243 against Northampton in the play-off semi-final in May 2004. The Arsenal game was also a sellout but was stated as a lower attendance because seats were taken out for extra TV cameras. Note the actual number through the turnstiles against Arsenal was almost certainly higher as, for a cup game, season ticket holders had to buy a ticket for the game and were not automatically counted.
The last attendance for a league game at home that was bigger was in April 1980, 10,095 against Grimsby.
Mansfield’s average away following (league games): 1,319.
In 21 out of 23 away league games this season, the away following has been more than 800. The exceptions were Plymouth on a Tuesday night (527) and Leyton Orient on a Tuesday night (627). Highest away league following: 2,814 at Doncaster.
If you include Carabao Cup and FA Cup, Mansfield’s average away following this season is an astonishing 1,663.

One of my favourite ever interviews. 🧤🎙️
Not only an outstanding goalkeeper but a great character to chat to as well.
