Dominguez is a rational actor in a rating environment where preserving 2750+ is way more important for your invitations and career than a nominal gain. It gets crowded in a hurry when you dip below that 2750 mark. A sub par event or two could negate a decade of work.

@Rola838 @fins0905 A career is more than just money to a lot of people, it represents what they've poured their whole life into. His motivations for dropping out to protect his career have less to do with money and more to do with his desire to continue playing top level chess imo

This is a Swiss tournament where people dropping out has little if any impact on leaderboards, pairings, and outcomes. He's dropping out to preserve his invites to top tournaments because he loves top level chess.
