@The_Weeb_Crew As a man who's seen many a gaming bro marry, I always tell their wives to learn about gaming and try to find ways to share it with their husbands. For a gaming guy, or any guy into geek hobbies, finding a cute woman who shares that hobby is the nigh-ultimate fantasy.

@The_Weeb_Crew What bugs me about how western fans talk about Gyraru Anime is they think Gyaru are normies, they aren't, they are also a Sub Culture looked down upon by mainstream Japanese society.

People are calling this an incel anime, but it's literally about how you shouldn't judge people based on appearances and women can actually be interested in or even enjoy the same kinds of media that you do.

I was very hyped for this adaptation and it didn't disappoint. Takuya really hit the jackpot of his life—having the chance of getting close to two of the most beautiful girls in school that appreciates and shares his otaku hobby 🩷 #オタギャル

@SandyofCthulhu 25 zombies in D&D = hack and slash gorefest. 1 zombie in CoC = everyone screaming "run for your life!" I love playing/running Call of Cthulhu. Thank you for creating it

It's crazy to me how Robin Hood is now popularized as "stealing from the rich to give to the poor" (Socialist messaging) In reality, Robin Hood stole back the taxes that a cruel leader unjustly levied against the population (Anti-socialist messaging)

Well I didn't predict how they'd behave, but I was at least smart enough to realize that I was on to something Big. Having the players ACT scared is the first step to actually having them BE scared, and I knew that I had to keep and refine (but keep simple) that Sanity mechanic! And we did. It's the number one thing everyone remarks about in Call of Cthulhu, because it fits the game so perfectly. It obviously would only be an obstacle in most other games - in D&D you don't want Your players to make a Sanity roll when they see a mindflayer. But in Call of Cthulhu it makes so much sense. Of course it also helps that in Call of Cthulhu confronting a monster is a huge deal, whereas it's commonplace in D&D. So anyway that is the story of the first-ever use of Sanity in Call of Cthulhu. A big success. It didn't work as I expected, but when it worked better than expected I seized the moment. Yay to 25 year old me! 3/3

So while testing Call of Cthulhu (this was in Davis, California with a bunch of college kids - heck I was a college kid too), when I introduced the Sanity rules I explained them to the players, and then we went on with the game. ANYWAY, the players had found a moldy old book that contained the spell "Evoke Malign Being from the Void" (actually a dimensional shambler) and they wanted to cast this spell. So I had them draw a pentacle on the floor with black cat's blood, light some candles and start casting the spell. Well I tried to jazz it up for them. I said "You hear a creaking noise in the air, and a portal seems to open. A black claw reaches out." In preparation for the dimensional shambler to make his appearance. And here is where the players astounded me. One of them said, "I cover my face." and held his hands over his eyes. Another said, "I'm going to face the corner of the room." and ran to the corner. A third said, "I'm running upstairs to get away." You would never do those things in D&D - knowledge is power. Why look away? If you can believe it, until that moment I had not realized that the Sanity rules would make the players ACT as if their characters were afraid! I'm not saying the players were actually afraid you understand, but the characters were running away, cowering, and so forth and I hadn't even made anyone roll for Sanity yet. 2/3

The number one most famous mechanic in the Call of Cthulhu game is Sanity. There's a lot of details to it but ultimately what it means that you can see or hear or learn something so awful it hurts your mind. Now when I was first designing Call of Cthulhu, I wanted to make it as much like the stories as possible (that's always my first step in a game - to put theme first). And in Lovecraft's tales, the heroes would faint dead away, panic, go into hysterics, become lunatics, and so forth, so I wanted this in the game. It seemed like a good fit for a horror game. So I assigned the players a good amount of Sanity (typically 50+ points), and each monster could inflict a potential Sanity loss. In my naivete, I thought that this would just be an additional threat for a monster. You know - "A Dark Young can hit you with tentacles, cast spells, and also cost you up to 1d10 Sanity. Boo!" 1/3

@ArtemisConsort Prob. over 20 years ago I was on some message board, discussing space stuff with other space nerds, when some incensed feminist social justice warrior got on there & said "well you're all just a bunch of straight white males, who want to *colonize the future!*" It's now my motto.

@ArtemisConsort The one time they're telling the truth is when they claim to be against inequality. They hate the idea of anyone being superior to them. Their solution is to bring everyone down to their level - so, equality. They could try and improve instead, but they know they'd fail.
