@thsottiaux @thsottiaux dang I wish I had saved using my 4 resets until now...would have loved having no 5-hour limits during that time!. Thanks for the reset!
English

Morning. The last 48 hours of Codex and ChatGPT Work have been intense! Three important updates:
- Temporarily removing the 5 hour usage limit restriction for all Plus, Business and Pro plans
- Rolling out changes that will make GPT 5.6 Sol more efficient across the board and that will be reflected in less usage being used so that it can take you further. Exact impact to be quantified and shared
- We hit 6M active users, and are landing a usage reset in the next hour
Go do things
English

Reasoning efforts on GPT-5.6 Sol:
Start with the lowest setting that gets the job done, then turn it up only when the task actually needs more thinking.
> Light & Low: quick, well-scoped tasks
> Medium: planning, analysis, or a few moving parts
> High & xhigh: harder work with multiple steps, tradeoffs, research, or careful verification
Max and Ultra are a bit different:
> Max: one model spends longer working through one hard problem
> Ultra: multiple subagents work on different parts of a bigger problem in parallel
Oh and, as with any new model, the reasoning levels don’t map directly from GPT-5.5 to GPT-5.6.
If you’re used to 5.5, try starting one level lower on a familiar task, then increase it only if the result needs it.

@thsottiaux @thsottiaux FYI - the usage stats are extremely delayed/stale when viewing in the Codex/ChatGPT Mac app. I have to go to Codex Web to see accurate/updated stats.

Today, the OpenAI product and engineering team is humming, there is so much to coordinate and keep running across the release of GPT 5.6 Sol/Terra/Luna, ChatGPT Work, the new ChatGPT desktop app, hosted sites and a million other things... together with the new ChatGPT Voice just launched yesterday.
We will not get it all right, give us feedback and we will iterate quickly. Thank you for being an amazing community.

@ptremblay I have the max yearly, worth every penny! The quality is unreal!
English

I'm sorry but Z.ai will have to come up with more aggressive pricing for me to subscribe to their plan. 🤷♂️

English

@KaiXCreator Having both is the best of both worlds. Codex audits fable and fable audits codex, both have found and acknowledged things the other missed
English

@kimmonismus I found it better to just get multiple subscriptions, it’s cheaper even with the 30% off discount when you buy $1k extra usage package
English

Subscription plans are massively subsidized.
And by massively, I mean absurdly:
Claude Max 20x: $200/month, with usage reportedly worth around $8,000
ChatGPT Pro 20x: $200/month, with usage reportedly worth around $14,000

SemiAnalysis@SemiAnalysis_
Recently, we purchased one of each Anthropic/OpenAI subscription plan and randomly ran long horizon coding tasks until we exhausted the weekly limit. It's widely believed that a $200/month plan maxes out at ~$2000/month worth of tokens (assuming API pricing). However, we found that the subscriptions are actually far more generous. (2/4)

I think you’ll really like Opus 4.8
It’s as smart as its benchmarks show but expresses and utilizes that intelligence in a warm and collaborative way.
Workflows are a great way to utilize it- I’m hooked. Article on that soon.

Introducing Claude Opus 4.8: it builds on Opus 4.7 with sharper judgment, more honesty about its own progress, and the ability to work independently for longer than its predecessors. Available today at the same price.

BREAKING:
Anthropic just dropped Opus 4.8—and it is a MONSTER
We've been testing for about a week @every and our verdict is they could've just called it Opus 5, it's that good.
Here's our vibe check:
- Beats GPT-5.5 on Senior Engineer bench. On our toughest benchmark Opus 4.8 scores a 63—a hair higher than GPT-5.5's score of 62, and a full 30 points higher than Opus 4.7. It tackled a ground-up rewrite of a production codebase, and actually built something that works.
HOWEVER: Coding performance varied a lot at different reasoning levels. We recommend using it on xhigh for best results.
- Incredibly good writer. Opus 4.8 scored a 79.6 on our writing benchmark—measuring models on real-world writing tasks we do all of the time like essay writing, promo email writing, and more. It beats GPT-5.5 by 6 points. It produces well-written prose with fewer "AI-isms". It's also very good at writing in your voice given the right context.
HOWEVER: Writing performance also varied with reasoning levels. Medium reasoning had higher incidence of AI-isms—we found best results with high.
- Beast at knowledge work. Opus 4.8 is very good at general knowledge work tasks like report creation, research and more. It produced the best PowerPoint one-shot we've ever seen on our deck generation benchmark.
- Emotionally intelligent, willing to question the frame. I've also found it to be quite good at talking through psychological or interpersonal issues. It has a high EQ, and it's also good at not glazing and helping to expand your perspective. Its thought process feels extremely rich and dynamic.
THE BAD:
These days a model is only as good as its harness, and Codex is still a far superior harness to the Claude Desktop app. This has kept me using Codex + GPT-5.5 as my daily driver, but I am flipping back and forth a lot more between Codex and Claude.
Anthropic is back baby!

Yesterday we reached an agreement with the Department of War for deploying advanced AI systems in classified environments, which we requested they make available to all AI companies.
We think our deployment has more guardrails than any previous agreement for classified AI deployments, including Anthropic's. Here's why: openai.com/index/our-agre…

California governor @GavinNewsom issues a press release admitting they knew about the insane fire risk this past Sunday because he was propositioning fire engines. And yet, he just called in the national guard a few hours ago. Pacific Palisades ran out of water at 3am. I’m so so upset for the people of California. My family who stayed. My lifelong friends who live there. Our brave firefighters. This is not a partisan issue it’s pure incompetence and misprioritization.
