You gotta be pretty dumb to be using DMA hardware while playing online games.
I wish these ppl could tell me if they own a DMA device and what they use it for.
I’m sure most of them don’t have one.
Being upset about disabling some extra hardware no regular user has is weird.

I hate this debate because it's a matter of a simple analogy:
A robber is using your property to hide stolen goods. You have the right to defend your property so you shoot the guy with a fucking rocket launcher.
If this was a trial, everybody would be "mf why the fuck did you do this? You can't shoot a rocket launcher just because someone is hiding stolen goods in your property".
A kernel-level anti-cheat is the guy who shoots a goddamn rocket launcher against someone hiding stolen goods in their property. Just because they are doing a bad thing doesn't mean you can JUSTIFY doing whatever you fucking want to stop it.

FPS is such a played out genre at this point. It's been obvious for about a decade now it's all about money. Zero passion, corpos just siphoning infinite money. Everyone copying everyone, slight differences between franchises. Feels like every new FPS that drops has 2 weeks in the sun then it drops off a cliff.
Going to take a team with massive funding, a unique and fresh idea, and the understanding that people just want what they had before in the 2000's and early 2010's, aka a miracle. None of this SBMM/EOMM, OP AA, evil monetization stuff, real gameplay depth and replayability, and a solid and consistent content release cycle.
The only high quality shooter that is really doing something new-ish imo is Deadlock rn.

I don’t think it’s a smart move to have your gaming PC be the same one you use to run DMA cards to test or develop anything.
There’s plenty of singleplayer games that won’t cause any issue if that’s the case.

DMA cards have legit uses that aren't cheating in a stupid copy-pasta video game. Like actual development and security expert use cases and people do not want to understand or don't know of. That lawsuit is going to be a much different one than you think.

@PwettyDerek SBMM in general is fine.
A strict SBMM system like COD/Apex, uses stats (KD) & force solo q players on the worst teams most of the time.
Then when you do party up, you’re playing against stacked teams.
You win a couple games in a row, your next match becomes impossible to win.

What I want from this Call of Duty: - No SBMM - A commitment to NO Over the Top skins - Full DMZ 2.0 Support - Persistent Lobbies - No Omni-Movement, crackhead BS - Better Campaign than the last few. My god. I like COD, but I’m burned out of the yearly cycle of games.

Game: Valorant AC: Vanguard (VGK) Today’s Vanguard anti-cheat update blocked the majority of DMA firmwares using SATA/NVMe. VGK suddenly triggered an IOMMU restart warning in-game, after which the DMA firmware becomes completely unusable, even without the game running or after uninstalling Vanguard. Only fix is a full OS reinstall. It’s using IOMMU to create read blocks, which permanently breaks the majority of almost all SATA/NVMe firmwares once triggered. Even the advanced H2-board got affected. Confirmed Firmware Block wave by @ItsGamerDoc

Apesar de eu não trabalhar mais na Riot (2021 ~ 2025), adoro desmistificar os folclores que a comunidade gera em cima desse assunto em específico, então vou frisar algumas coisas aqui em cima de comentários e publicações que vi sobre este tema:
Essa atualização não vai quebrar sua máquina, na real, ela nem mexe no hardware, a Riot já utiliza mecanismos da Microsoft/Windows desde 2022, e esse é só mais um deles, a grande diferença é que agora o Vanguard irá invalidar acesso desses dispositivos maliciosos direto no sistema operacional, através do mecanismo do IOMMU.
Outro ponto muito importante, isso é um dos sistemas de ultimo recurso da Riot, e como diz o bom ditado, não vale a pena usar uma bazuca pra matar uma formiga, então eu diria de forma otimista que 95% das contas do Valorant nunca sequer chegarão perto de ativar esse sistema, pois ele demanda restrições específicas, que só são engatilhadas quando o perfil suspeito já possui histórico com cheating.
E por ultimo e mais importante ainda, percebe como eu só citei Valorant neste texto? Sim, este sistema possui o foco no Valorant, se você só joga o seu jogo de fadinha, ai mesmo que você não vai nem ver a pontinha do foguete...
Ou seja, e a sua placa de audio de procedência duvidosa vindo da China? não, ela não vai ativar um falso positivo que irá explodir seu pc, e seus dados não estão sendo vendidos no mercado negro!

Segundo relatos, a nova atualização do anti-cheat da Riot danifica o firmware de dispositivos utilizados nesse tipo de trapaça ao detectá-los. Os aparelhos podem ser reparados, mas a prática levantou discussões. A atualização mira hardwares com firmware SATA e NVMe modificados, usados para ler a memória do jogo e burlar sistemas anti-cheat tradicionais. A Riot também teria trabalhado com fabricantes como ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte e ASRock para corrigir vulnerabilidades relacionadas ao acesso DMA.

The hardware still functions. The PC keeps working.
You just have to reinstall your OS to make DMA work again.
That said, if you’re intentionally using DMA hardware, you should know there’s risks to the hardware itself.
